Whirlpool washer 1987 model CA7800XPW1: the agitator slow and/or stops only to resume to full speed at other times. I can't get the agitator off; got the back off and the belt looks OK; it seems like...

The agitator should be able to be removed once the bolt in the center of it is removed, the oil you see is from the transmission that contain the gears that make the agitator swoosch back and forth,if ya see a lot oil its leaked out of the trans. and the internal gears are stripped. It could be that the center spine of the agitator itself where it connects to the trans. shaft is stripped but unless the agitator comes off where will be no way to see if that is it. IF you want to invest in tl that most likely you will never use again there is a tool out that is a rubber bladder that slips under the agitator and is filled w/water when its filled it expands and pushs the agaitator up from the bottom

How do you remove the nut under the agitator? Ours is leaking gear oil from bearing under agitator. Have the agitator off. GE WBSR3140DW

theres nothing under your agitator, first take cover off your agitator there should be a small bolt
holding it down, take that bolt out then grab agitator from bottom and pull up it should come off easy.

Kenmore elite won't agitate properly

Does the bottom of your agitator work correctly? We had the same problem if you pop the cap off the top of your agitator there is a cam in there with 3 dogs that engage the agitator causing it to spin. If the bottom part is agitating correctly then chances are the dogs in the cam assembly are shot. If the bottom is agitating correctly then it is very possible you have something stuck under the bottom section of the agitator. If this is the case remove the top cover (same as before it's just a lid that pops off) inside you will see a 1/2" square use a 1/2" drive ratchet with a 3" or 6" extension unscrew this piece remove the top section of the agitator then the bottom. Once the bottom is out check to make sure all is clear inside the washer. Reassemble in the reverse order making sure the lower section sits all the way down on the splines for the drive mechanism. If neither one of those solve the problem I would suspect you have an issue in the drive train of the washer.

Agitator top part is lose

pop the top off your agitator. There is 4 small plastic pieces that make the top part of the agitator work. Remove the 7/16 bolt in the center of the agitator and pull the top of the agitator out. Replace what they call a dog kit. Go to any parts store and they will know exactly what your talking about. They are olny about 6 bucks. its an easy fix so no need for a service technician.

I have roper washing machine

I don't know if the agitator is turning or not but the whole agitator is lose from the bottom part of the agitator. The washer also leaks. We have checked all of the hoses etc and there is no problem with that. We wonder if the leak isn't coming from the agitator being lose.

Kenmore Washer Model #82881110

Remove the dispenser cap by pulling it straight up. Under the dispenser cap, there may be another cap. If so, remove the center cap exposing the agitator bolt. Using a socket and ratchet remove the agitator bolt and the top half of the agitator can be lifted out as one piece. With the top portion of the agitator removed, grasp the lower agitator by the bottom flanges and pull straight up. The remaining section should lift off the center post. For a helpful illustration of what I'm talking about, go to and type in your model number as "110.82881110". Go to the "Agitator, Basket and Tub" heading. There's an exploded view illustration of the agitator and all the components. If you require parts, all the part number and pricing information is available, as well. I hope this helps you.

PS When re-installing the agitator DO NOT over tighten the agitator bolt. This can cause damage to the agitator and create slow rotation problems. Just make sure you tighten the bolt snug, and then give it about a 1/4 turn.

Seal leaking from tub. How do I remove agitator?

If this is a Maytag Performa or Atlantis model all you have to do is remove the center cap on the agitator by pulling on it and locate the agitator bolt underneath. Loosen the bolt, and the agitator should pull straight up.

If this is a Maytag Dependable Care series there will be 1/4 inch screw along the side of the agitator towards the bottom. Remove this screw and the agitator will pull straight up.

I hope this helps you.

My Maytag Performa 2300 appears to have grease leaking out of the point where the top of the agitator connects with the bottom of the agitator.

Get a new one. You either have a bad tranny or a seal leak. Either way the cost is about 60 - 80% of the cost of a new one.
