The only real important thing is blue flame with a orange tip,
also ranges have different nozzles for Natural Gas (NG) or propane(LPG)

he can check for leaks with soapy water at the flex line connection

New kenmore gas range 790.7433 converted to lp and oven flames are way too high and produce lots of soot...how fix?

Do the rangetop burners act OK, Brenda? It's just the oven that's causing a problem?

Go back to the oven burner, right where you installed the new orifice. That orifice should fit inside an air mixture tube, probably stainless steel, leading to the burner itself. Right where the orifice fits into it will be some means of adjusting the air mixture - a sliding window of some sort, whether flat or round. You'll need to loosen the screw holding it in place (DO NOT remove the screw, only loosen it) and turn it so the air opening is larger. Right now you're getting too "rich" a mixture, too much propane & not enough air. Before you close it all up, try the oven again - see if your adjustment worked correctly. If not, adjust it again - this is a trial-and-error process, and it's different for every different altitude and climate.

At some setting, you'll get a nice blue flame with very little orange in it. If you live in a very high humidity area, you'll have much more orange color than people who live where it's very dry, but the flame should at least be MOSTLY blue, and should never be sooty.

Ge gas range oven burner flames perfect, broiler flames rolling & orange

Anytime the flames on a burner aren't blue or "perfect" as you say... it means that there is an improper mixture of gas to air ratio... this is usually caused by either and obstruction..such as spider etc or grease... and is almost always the problem is located at the venture which is where air and the gas come together...try blowing that burner out real good with compressed air.
OR the same problem in mixture happens when the burner is wore out..corrosion causing the holes to enlarge or close up... in that case you need a new burner.
So I would "clean the fire out of it" and check for obstructions and corrosion
Hope this helps

Hi Nancy
I have to ask you a couple of questions. Is the range set up for LP or Natural gas? Blow-tourch sounds are normally caused by to much air going into the burner. If you can look at the burner safely the flames should burn just out of the burner. If the flames are way off the burner the air adjustment is way off or you range is set for the wrong gas. Are your top burners OK?

The oven flame comes into the oven around the oven bake cover and all burners and broiler have a perfect flame. this is a brand new oven

Are you on natural gas or propane? If you are on propane did you have it converted form natural gas. Due to the difference in orface size you will be getting more gas flow then needed. If it was converted you need to contact the store and advise them it has a possible gas valve problem.

Sound like the igniter is not reaching the correct amp draw, so it is not opening the gas valve all the way. Watch this video on troubleshooting a gas oven. www.appliancehelponline.com/servicemanual.html
