SOURCE: Region 1 only DVD player

First of all, stop buying this trash. When people stop rewarding companies for creating restricted garbage DRM will die. Our XV-S300 was stolen recently, but this works for the XV-S500, and maybe the 300 as well:

1. Remove the disc
2. Close the door
3. Press 0 then ENTER on the remote control (RM-SXV008J)
(The player will display the PREVIOUS region setting
then will set itself to what you told it.)
(With the player OFF press 0 then ENTER on the remote)
From the website:

With the player off, just enter the region number you want and hit
After a few seconds, you're ready to go.

SOURCE: dvd player won't read dvds

There are 2 things you can do as an end user.

1. Clean the DVD's or CD's that you are using. A fingerprint or any other debris or marks on a disc can cause playback problems. Most retailers that sell DVD and CD players also sell disc cleaning kits.
I use another method that works very good, as good or better than the cleaning kits. Use a small amount of windex on the data side of the DVD or CD and then a soft cloth like a bath towel or terry cloth to clean it. It really is important to keep your disc's as clean and scratch free as possible. If that does not help you can move on to the next step.

2. Clean the lens of the laser pick up. You can do that with a cleaning disc that is sold at most all stores that sell DVD players. It is a disc that you put into the player just like any other disc except that it had some very fine brushes on it that cleans off the lens. Let it run for around 20 to 30 seconds.

If neither of those things help, you have a problem that can not be fixed without some good electronic skills.

Something else you may want to keep in mind if you are thinking about taking it to a service center for repair.

Unless you paid more than $200 for it, it may not be worth fixing.
I have been repairing electronics (car and home audio systems) for over 17 years and repairs on these type of units normally run anywhere from $90 to $175 (depending on the problem).
You will also only get a 30 to 60 day warranty on the repair from most repair centers, as opposed to the warranty of a new piece of equipment which is normally 90 days or 1 year.

I hope this helps you fix your DVD recorder or at least make an informed decision. If you need any more help feel free to ask and a good rating would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

My rca model drc-257n won't turn on. it is plugged into a good socket. remote won't turn it on ether

Faulty switchmode power supply in the unit, due to several failed components including electrolytic capacitors which may have leaked. Look for bulging or leaky caps, and burn-marks on the PCB, around IC regulators (these can be 3 or 5 pin devices and they stand upright on the board) - chances are 1 or more of these ICs has short-circuited as well as the caps.

You can take the player to a service repair centre for a quote on the likely cost(s) involved to restore this unit to working order, as well as a second opinion, then you can make a positive decision afterwards as to whether it will be economical to fix or not. Up to you. I warn you that it could be expensive; equal to or more than the price of a new unit.

New players (even Blu-Ray with DVD playback support) are becoming cheaper to buy nowadays, while repairs to this and similar model DVD players become more expensive, often with suitable replacement parts not being available. If you truly love this little player, and you want it working, consider the abovementioned workshop quote suggestion first.

Appears no power in unit. no lights or display. verified power into connector plugged onto primary board. xv-n212 jvc dvd acually loaded dvd disc then power ceased. again 120v onto primary board.

Sounds like faulty DC regulation in the power supply - due to numerous faulty electrolytic capacitors and/or IC regulators.

Check ALL the caps, and replace ALL of them as required. (You can easily do a visual inspection of the caps - some may have bulged, split their vents (in their tops) or leaked.) Electrolytics tend to have a short life, and, as these are inexpensive, you can adopt the blanket approach and replace all of them in the PSU circuit. They are available in every electronics shop - including Radio Shack. If this does NOT fix the 'dying power' issue, the unit may have to be submitted to a repair centre for a quote on further repair, and parts if necessary. At least with a quote you can make a decision afterwards as to whether it is worthwhile fixing or not. Up to you.

Panasonic dvd player model dvbs32 fault dead no display no functions checked secondary diodes seem okay heated caps. no results any ideas

Are you sure that you don't mean a DVD-S32? if you do, that is a Panasonic DVD player. A DVB-S32 is a digital satellite receiver box, but it is a different brand.

In any event, the 'dead' condition points to one common denominator; the power supply has one or more short-circuit components. I doubt it would just be a simple blown fuse; it could be something far more serious, which may have affected the surface-mounted parts on the copper side of the board in this area.

The difference between taking this to a service centre to be repaired and the retail price of a brand new player could be somewhat significant, since new players are relatively cheaper to buy now.

If you really want this one fixed by a workshop. get a quote first on the likely cost(s) involved to restore it to full operation. Then you can make a decision whether or not to go further with it, or simply buy a new player.

Only consider replacing the whole player if you discover it is not economical to repair your existing model.

I need a replacement for a defective board of a portablen coby dvd player. where can i buy such replacement in manila? thanks.

1) Search eBay for replacement parts: (sort by lowest price, because "boards" must be somewhere on the cheapest end of list). I couldn't find anything using terms: coby dvd player board, maybe there is other name for the "board"?!
2) If you can't find anything on eBay find all computer service centers in Manila via Google and send e-mail inquiries whether they have the coby dvd player board you need, sometimes they do. Even if they don't have it - they will certainly know where to get one.

Dvd side used to work but now when i put in a dvd it says NO DISC. I've tried several different dvds but still says the same thing. I have the HR-XVC25U

This is really strange. This summer my DVD side of my JVC Combo did the same thing. I went through the circuitry with a scope but I couldn't nail it down to one component. I called JVC about a new board but they wanted more than a new unit costs. They wouldn't tell me if this is a problem across the whole line. I ended up buying a new Panasonic combo at WalMart for less than $100. Its working well for now.

Plugged Dvd player into wall and it will not come on

Plugged Dvd player into wall and it will not come On indicates that power supply board in dvd player is not working/ become defective.
If unit is under warranty, call Sony to get replacement or buy new dvd player because spare parts are not available for this model, it is sort of disposable dvd player.

Jvc rx 318 receiver

The problem you describe is common to JVC amps. This control has a motor mounted on the back of the circuit card that drives the volume control up or down using the remote control for this system. The looseness of the volume control cannot be repaired. The shaft has separated from the potentiometer. I don't know if JVC has this part any longer but it has to be replaced as a unit (volume control card).
