Totally dead Zune!

My Zune is totally dead! Initially I thought it was due to a low battery but it won't charge on the CPU (it doesn't even recognize that anything is connected) nor will it charge with the wall adapter, won't even light up to show that it is charging. I have tried all of the suggestions here, i.e. different combinations of buttons, and still nothing. What to do?

I have the same problem with my 30gb, at first it would just show a screen but the battery wouldn't charge. It would eventually say low battery then it would just die. Now it won't even power up or do anything. I saw on a website where you can replace the internal parts fairly cheap it was www.rapidrepair.com but if I can get away from doing that I would welcome any advice. Please email me at happy_2_be_here@hotmail.com

Thanks for the suggestion vibilo but plugging my Zune into either my cpu or wall charger does nothing, the Zune doesn't light up to indicate that it is indeed charging nor does my cpu acknowledge that new hardware has been connected.

Perhaps my Zune has bigger issues than the simple "leap year bug" and as a result I am sending it back (as it is still under warranty) where hopefully the Microsoft gurus will be able to remedy the situation or simply replace it.

If nothing seems to revive it, You most likely need a new logic board which can be replaced without problems. There are third party Zune repair services, that will fix it for cheap. Even better, I found an DYI Zune repair guide, soyoucan do it yourself too, not that difficult. Part is availableon Ebay. If you can't do it yourself, have a tech savy friend do itfor you.

It sounds like you guys might be suffering from the Infamous zune new year bug. Let your Zune completely die (leave it for a few days if you have to). After doing this plug it into a computer or wall out let to charge. Leave it to charge for at least an hour. Come back and unpluge the zune and reconnect it to a different usb port if possible. Let it continue to charge.

Letting it die should fix the freeze and swapping ports during the charge will help the computer detect the zune as when their batteries are 100% dead they do not have enough power to say that they are there.

Hopefully this will help out one or two of you.

My zune 120 , will not connect to my pc, it tells me "to update software"

First step is to let it drain completely and then plug it in once fully dead to see if it resets itself and clears the problem. If that doesn't work the next step
Soft Reset: Plug it in to the computer. If the computer recognizes it you can likely reset it. to do that push and holding the back and up buttons together. Even if not recognized try doing this.
Hard Reset: this will erase the information on your zune and restore it to factory settings with no information on it. Your information will be re-synced when you plug it back in to your comptuer.

Zune is completely dead when not plugged into my computer

the battery is not retaining any power. the only reason it works while it is plugged in is because there is power go directly to the battery

Zune won't respond to any key presses.

I would first allow the Zune to completely charge (the battery symbol should be full and green[i believe--it's been a while since I first got mine]).

I would then unplug the device and restart the computer. Once your computer has completely rebooted connect the device to the computer and see if it detects the device. It should work. Also you might try another USB port.

Pc will not detect zune...

You may have to reset the zune device to factory default settings and reload...

Try this....
Reset Zune: Press and hold the back button while pressing up on the control pad.
Connect Zune to a power source: If the Zune device is in sleep mode, this action will wake the Zune device and turn it on. If the battery does not have a charge, you may have to wait several minutes for the Zune device to turn on.

Also, make sure that the hold button on top of your zune is turned to the off position.

Hope this helps!

Zune 80G Freeze

I returned it to Ebay after calling Zune Tech Support to find out it was a dead battery or a battery that was not holding a charge.

Thanks but no premium plan needed.
