SOURCE: The ink jet cartridges on my KODAK ESP9

What chip are you talking about? Are you referring to the brass contact points at the back of the cartrige? If so what is "building up on them"?

I would also suggest always using genuine Kodak cartridges. They cheap enough as it is

You will need a new printhead. Email kdisk.allinone.uk@support.kodak.com and supply them with you address and your printer service number (located where you remove the cartridges to the left on a white sticker) and your full address and supply them with a code stating "PH01". Once you have it, calibrate your printer again and you should not have this issue again.
