No printer action from the computer when clicked on screen


My HP officejet 5500 series will not accept a signal from my computer to the printer to print an item but it will print from copy in the glass section. Can you tell me what I must do to fix, I already have checked the connections and they are all hooked up or they appear so and I have replaced both cartridges for they checked low so I replace them both. I realigned them and did a self test and everthing appears alright. But the machine will still not accept a signal to print. Your help and or advise is greatly needed.

    In answer to bunnydawg the self test works from the printer and it comes back as all is ok but the printer will not work from the computer or respond from a siganl from same.

    While trying to do as you instructed I found that that the usb cable was bent at the end causing it not work, I have gone to the local computer store purchased a cable from them and corrected the problem therefore your advice was not the solution. I would like a refund of my money spent thank you very much.

Hi I suppose the printer comes with a USB support . Kindly check in the Device manager if the USB port is detected . Insert the Driver CD shipped along with the printer and install the same.

download this driver then install then check .
if u connect with usb then just uninstall old driver then install this new usb driver.
if u have network printer then find printer when instal new printer.
also check that u gert ping of your printer ip adreses.
for examle "ping 192.168.15.12

Try a different usb port

if the USB Root Hub is IRQ shared with other devices that are
particularly active, this problem may occur in many systems. This has to do with data streaming being interrupted (shared IRQ requests), and the receiving load becoming timed out. The device becomes out of sync. The device may then hang, or stop responding, and have to be reset.

There is also the condition where the data inputs of the device being driven by the USB port are pulling peaks of too much peak current for the USB port. Considering the speed of the data coming from the port, the effective impedance of the device load may be a bit low, thus causing it to pull more current than what the USB port can support.

Initially, verify in the Ports tab of the Printer's Properties that the manner of connection is checked. If you are using parallel, then the port must be set to LPT1. On the other hand, if you are using USB connection, then the USB...Virtual Printer port must be checked.

Hi there
Remove the power from the printer and unplug the lead from the pc, go to the pc and uninstall the printers software. Download Ccleaner

then clean the registry and restart the pc so changes are made in the registry, reinstall the printers software, reailign the cartridges and print a test page. Your problem should now be solved

You need to reinstall driver software.

Unplug printer USB and reinstall printer software using printer CD.

If you do not have the CD download from: HP Support & Drivers.

Start software setup with printer USB unplugged, the software setup wizard will tell you when to connect the prionter back to the computer.

If your printer stil ins't working properly, I would look into the properties, and see if somehow someone didn't put your printer in the pause setting, or if it is still trying to print a previous job.

If either case is what's wrong, just delete the waiting job, or un-stall the previous print job.

Its the simple problem of the drivers of the printer needs reloaded.just delete the present drivers and reload the new drivers from the installation cd.
u can get the required drivers fromm the following lnk if you do not have the installation cd

+ Power off and unplug
+ Go to Control Panel-Add/Remove Programs-remove your printer software.
+Reboot PC
+Reinstall printer software, follow instructions during setup and it should work fine.

    You've reinstalled the drivers and everything, and it's still not showing up in control panel under printers ?

    If that doesn't work and it should then perhaps they are not the correct drivers. Try plugging the printer into a different USB port.

  1. Switch on the HP Officejet 6700 series printer and wait until the printer is READY. [The Power light should be on]
  2. Double click on OJ6700_R1435A.exe to launch the HP Printer Update utility. A list of OfficeJet 6700 Premium series printers detected will be displayed on the screen.

Uninstall and Reinstall the software

1 On the Windows taskbar, click Start, choose Programs or All Programs
(XP), choose Hewlett-Packard, choose hp officejet 6100 series, then
choose HP Uninstaller.
2 Follow the directions on the screen.
3 If you are asked whether you would like to remove shared files, click No.
4 After the program finishes removing the software, disconnect your
HP OfficeJet, and restart your computer.
5.Do not reconnect the Officejet now
6 To reinstall the software, insert the HP OfficeJet 6100 Series CD-ROM into
your computer’s CD-ROM drive, and follow the instructions that appear.
7.After the software is installed reconnect the usb cable and allow the
computer to detect and install the software

I disconnected the hp officejet all-in-one from my computer and later reconnected it. Now it thinks its a fax machine, and won't print from the computer.


it (Hp officejet 4315v series FAX) must be set to default that's why it would not print.The default printer should be the Hp officejet 4315v series,the one without the word fax in the end.
Here's how you do it:
for windows XP operating system
  1. click on the start button on your computer.
  2. click on printers and faxes.If it is not on the start-up list you can click on control panel ,click on printers and faxes or printers and other hardware.
  3. in printers and faxes,it will display all the printers installed on your computer
  4. look for officejet 4315v series or officejet 4300v series then right-click on it's printer icon then left- click on set as default.
  5. try printing from the computer.

for windows vista operating system
  1. click on the start button on the computer
  2. in the search box,type in printers,hit enter key on the keyboard.
  3. in printers,it will display all the printers installed on your computer
  4. look for officejet 4315v series or officejet 4300v series then right-click on it's printer icon then left- click on set as default.
  5. try printing from the computer.

If it does not print download the print diagnostic utility from the hp website.It is a helpful tool in diagnosing printing problems.I will provide you the link.

Hi You can Try
Solution 1:
Clean the timing strip.

Solution 2:
The purge cap (the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to when it's not in use) may be not lubricated well enough .

Lubricate the sliders with some white grease (don't get it on the small wipers or the black caps); this repair probably require to remove the right panel off of the printer to gain access to the purge mechanism.

I have an HP Officejet 6500. I want to scan a document to a PDF, then upload it to a website. How do I do it? I scanned the document, but now I can't find the PDF.


(1.) Start / All Programs / HP / HP Viewer / Scan Document (icon is in left margin)
(2.) A small screen appears entitled "Select Source", and provides the "HP Officejet 6200 Series TWAIN" option. Highlight this then click "select".
(3.) I accept the default provided on the next screen (i.e., radio buttons for "Document" & "Scan for editable text"; "Scan to:" (drop box) "HP Document Viewer; check "Show Preview" box; then click "Scan".
(4.) After a brief pause, my printer scans, then the HP Document Viewer screen on the PC provides a small image of the scanned document and allows me to click the "accept" icon.
(5.) After "accepting" the scan into the HP Document Viewer, it takes a minute for it to appear in the "viewer". Notice that the "View Thumbnails" tab is highlighted at the top of this screen. Click the check-box next to the scanned item then click the "View Page" tab just to the right of the "View Thumbnails" tab.
(6.) The new screen should show a larger version of your scanned document. Now notice the "Save As" icon in the upper left corner. Click that, then "yes" to warning default screen, then select a file name and location to save it into.
(7.) Before clicking save, click the drop box next to the "Save as type:" and select one of the pdf options. Mine offers: "PDF 1-bit", PDF 8-bit Grayscale", and "PDF 24-bit Color" options. Choose one of them then click "save".
(8.) You should then be able to find the scanned pdf file in the directory you selected to save it under.

Note that you may need all of the HP printer utilities and tool software installed for this to work. If you don't, you may need to uninstall/reinstall the printer software.

  1. Turn on the HP Officejet, and lift open the print-carriage access door. The print carriage will move into the access area. Figure 1: Opening the print-carriage access door c00034766.jpg
  2. After the carriage stops moving, push down on the top of the print cartridge to release it, and then pull it toward you out of the slot. Figure 2: Removing the print cartridge c00034767.jpg NOTE: It is normal to see ink buildup in the print cartridge slots.
  3. Remove the new print cartridge from the packaging and gently remove the plastic tape by using the pink pull tab. CAUTION: Do not touch the copper contacts or ink nozzles.   5. Close the print-carriage access door.
Aligning the print cartridges The HP Officejet will prompt you to align the print cartridges every time you install a new print cartridge to assure high-quality output.
  1. When the message displays, press OK . The HP Officejet will print an alignment page.
  2. Place the alignment page face down on the left front corner of the glass with the top of the page facing the left side.
  3. Press OK . The HP Officejet will align the print cartridges and display Alignment Complete .
