Question about Sony KP-EF61 61" Rear Projection Television

Arched blue lines across screen of Sony 63" Rear Projection TV

As described, I have multiple arched blue lines across screen of Sony 63" Rear Projection TV most notable when the screen is darkened during a show, movie, etc. However, not noticable when there is bright images being projected. Is this a convergence module problem needing replacement? I have done the manual convergence alignment already but the lines are still there, like a giant's thumb print

I have the same problem too but I have yellow and blue lines. I think it needs a new convergence module - am I right and can one do it oneself or does one need a engineer to do it?

And I used this solution again....not for the lines but for overall brightness of the picture. This projection tv is not going to die (don't remember what yearit was purchased by my father), but it does need a little 'love' once in a while. It was getting a bit dark and I just messed with the color settings....all good now.

Picture is very blue, especially in dark scenes.

Sony TVs has an Optical Block issue. If there is an issue with the optical block, then there will be green, blue patches or tint on the TV display. Try resetting the TV to the factory settings and try Power resetting the TV. Turn Off the TV and remove the power plug from the wall outlet for 1 minute and reconnect it and check the operation. If the issue still persists, then TV may require service. You can contact the Customer relations team and check for the available options. Sony had repaired free of cost for such issues. Hence, contact the customer relations.

I have blue arched lines and blue screen

HI:
Your problem is the blue CRT or picture has gone bad, you will need to have the picture replaced, there are three tubes in this model rear projection television. Red, Green, and Blue. Replaceing the blue tube is the only option for normal operation to resume. It may be hard to find the tube, but you can try contacting this website for the part www.vdc.com, they manufacture and usually have stocks of sony picture tubes and rebuilt ones as well. The company's name is Video Display Corporation...

Arched pink lines across screen. Now green and pink double stacked wording.

Projection sets have two very common problems.

The first common problem is convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Blue and red arched lines on screen when background dark

Sounds like you are describing retrace lines that could indicate that your CRTs or something in the drive circuits are bad.. Check the resistors on the CRT sockets to see if they are in tolerance. If they are try turning the red and blue screen adjustments down just a little this should take the lines away. You will however be needing service in the not to far future. Turning the screens down should help if the resistors check out. Let me know if you need anything further.

White arched lines appearing on dark/black screens.

it sounds like you are seeing the vertical retrace for all three colors together (white). Its possible that all three screen adjustments (red, green, blue) are off, but I suspect a problem with the screen power supply.
there is also a recall on this set
