Lint alarm sounds after three to four minutes use

Does not matter what load size is in the dryer, after a few minutes of operation the alarm sounds, (I always start with a clean lint screen) we open the door, clean the screen insert and restart. Then it starts all over again. This just happen six times with five items in the dryer.

I have the same problem. The lint alarm sounds constantly, even after thoroughly cleaning the lint screen and housing with the vacuum and compressed air.

The lint alarm sounds frequently, even after scrubbing the lint screen with a brush and soap and water. The screen is clear and yet the alarm will still go on. We frequently run the dryer with the screen off.

I have had the same problem since it was brand new, I have washed the lint filter, power washed the "condenser", taken the back off the dryer off and cleaned the dirt, all with no success. Help?

Open the back of your dryer and clean out all the dirt. Ours had an old rubber glove reducing the air flow which we removed. We closed the cover on the back of the dryer and have operated more than six months without incident. We lived with this problem for two years before we cleaned 'er up! Now, all is well with my soul.

How do I remove the lint housing of Maytag Neptune dryer

Hi Kate,

Gaining access to the lint housing sounds more difficult than it is. As a matter of fact, I could get to it and have it back together in the time it takes me to type out the instructions!

Tools needed;
1.) Phillips screwdriver
2.) 5/16" nut driver or socket

UNPLUG THE DRYER FIRST!!! Or risk a funky new hair-do...

Open the door and remove the four screws at the hinges then remove the door. Opposite the hinges, you'll see 4 more screws, remove these too. Now grasp the front panel on both sides near the top and pull it toward you. Lean it out to about a 45 degree angle and lift it off the clips that are holding it (at the bottom).
Now you'll see the lint trap housing. Look around the housing, you'll probably see a yellow wire near the 5 o'clock position, remove it. Now, on either side, you'll see four 5/16" screws... Don't remove the top ones, just remove the three below the top ones. You can now pull the entire panel off of the frame for cleaning.
Rebuild in the reverse order (and don't forget to re-connect that yellow wire!)

There ya go! Please don't forget to rate this as "FixYa", OK

Hotpoint dryer takes 3-4 70 minute cycles per load to dry, no matter what size load

Check your rear exhaust vent for blockage.
Your dryer has 2 heating elements.
If it gets warm at all at least one element is broken.
The operating thermostat could also be bad.
Burned/broken wire at heater terminal.
Unplug the dryer.
Remove the front panel, then the belt and drum and inspect the heater and thermostats.

My dryer operates well but cuts off during operation.

A1 Pull the dryer out away from the wall. Unhook the vent from the dryer completely. Do not put anything over the dryer exhaust on the back of the dryer. Do a normal load with the vent unhooked. If it dries better or ok like this then the problem is in the dryer venting. Like a blocked vent pipe or a smashed or restricted vent hose.
A2 - If the vent  doesn't make a difference, then check the blower wheel for excessive lint build up, check that there isn't anything stuck to the air intake baffle inside the drum, (i.e. the screen on the back wall of the dryer when looking into the drum). Check the lint filter chute for blockage. Check that the heating element isn't shorted to ground. Check the exhaust temperature of the dryer. A meat or pocket  thermometer can be used for this. It should cycle between 120 degrees and 170 degrees. Check that the drum seals to make sure the are not worn out.

Dryer stops after a few minutes of a full load.

You will have to replace the moisture sensor. The heat from the small fire may have damaged it. It's not that hard to do, but the part costs @$60.

It takes several auto cycles on regular heat to dry a load of laundry when I think it should only take one. What's wrong?

first, check your exhaust, you have to make sure there is no buildup at all inside it. this is the most common problem to cause this. if lint gets backed up, there is a sensor that shuts down the heating element after only a few seconds. hope this helps
