SOURCE: Trying to start my computer

http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm has a Disc Fitness Test programme. It produces a floppy to boot from DOS into Windows. My Satellite 1110 has the same error message, PXE-E61. The BIOS shows "no HDD". The DTF  found no fault on the HDD. (full test took 45minutes)    Give it a try.  I know, you need a working computer to down load it-- and DOS and a floppy drive on the faulty one. There are USB adaptors for floppy drives.  Tomorrow I prise the 1110 apart and will clean all the cable and connectors. Good luck.

cable plug possible defective, if possible plug into another computer and see if error occurs. since you did not state OS go into the Device Manager and insure 'network adapter' has driver installed and working. Is there an external media hooked up?

You haved enabled the capability for your computer to "boot" itself by reading from a boot-server connected to your network-cable.

But, the network-cable is unplugged, resulting in the "check cable" message.

What this _could_ mean is that the computer primarily tried, and failed, to boot from your disk-drive, and secondarily tried, and failed, to boot from your CD-ROM, and so it made a tertiary triy, which failed, to boot from the "network", i.e., that your hard-drive is not functioning.

Reboot, and enter "BIOS setup", and disable the "boot from network" option, to get rid of those error-messages. But, it's still possible that your disk-drive is malfunctioning.

In the BIOS, look in the boot options and take the "other devices" or "other" out of the boot sequence. Also check to see if boot from LAN is enabled. If it is, disable it. PXE is a protocol that will enable you to boot from a network drive or server. When it says that it failed, it is because it could not find an OS on the network

Enter BIOS by hitting F2. Go to Boot tab and change to default boot. I had the same problem and it worked for me.

When booting, try going to the Boot Menu by pressing F12 when you see the Toshiba logo so you can select your hard drive as your boot device. After doing so, if you still get an "Invalid System Disc" error, then your hard drive may be shot.

Error message on dv 1000 pxe-mof and pxe-e61

The error PXE-E61: Media test failure usually means the hard disk has failed or the hard disk needs re-seating or the disk controller is faulty. First - re-seat the hard disk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot and go into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty.
Then the hard drive needs to be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer or laptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioning computer/laptop again.

My Toshiba Tecra 9100 gives me an error message of PXE-E61: Media test failer, check cable. Then it says PXE-MOF: Exiting Intel PXE.ROM. It's asking for a system disk, but this was given to me and I don't...

The error message is caused by a failed hard disk. Replace that then borrow a Windows install disk from a friend and install with it and the key on the sticker.

It means that the BIOS cannot find a disk to boot.
Make sure you selected the hard drive in the boot settings of your BIOS
Remove all external DVD drives or floppy drives or ethernet cables
If you get an error message, you should start troubleshooting your hard drive.
