Question about Dell Inspiron 1720 Notebook
It appears the lid latch spring has came off or broke as the latch now moves freely. I need instructions to replace the spring. Thanks in advance!!!
The spring and latch are available from Dell but this is a very hard repair. I do this for a living and screen repair is always a challenge. If you want to tackle it then call Dell first to get the parts. Once the parts have arrived put the laptop on a non static mat (placemats work well). Take out the battery and do not connect the AC power. If you're lucky on your screen there should be four rubber bumpers. Peal these off and there should be a screw behind each one. Now the bezel has to be unlocked from the back. You'll need a couple of plastic pry devices. I like to use plastic bike tire irons. Once the bezel is off you'll see the catch and where the sping goes. Make sure you find that old spring, you don't want it ending up in the electronics. Now just reverse everything to put it back together. You'll need to put a little rubber cement to put on those bumpers. If you're machine doesn't have the screws you'll have to use those plastic tire irons to pry apart the screen. Be careful and don't force it.
