SOURCE: Canon Rebel XS has stopped recording images...

I can help you fix the BUSY Error or Error 99 of your Canon EOS Rebel XS .

Installation of this Canon EOS Rebel XS firmware version 1.06 update will solve these problems:

  1. Some cameras may exhibit a phenomenon in which the LCD monitor does not display, the shutter does not release, and the BUSY indication remains lit in the viewfinder.
  2. The message, "Err 99 Shooting is not possible. Turn the power switch to<OFF> and <ON> again or re-install the battery", appears on the camera's LCD monitor, and after the above operation is carried out,the LCD monitor displays in a language that is different from the actual language setting.
See the firmware instructions and download the firmware upgrade by following these Fixya Tips :

  1. Follow this link to download a pdf version of the firmware installation instruction guide.
  2. Follow this link to download the Windows Version of the Canon EOS Rebel XS / Canon EOS 1000D firmware version 1.06 update.
  3. Follow this link to download the MAC version of the Canon EOS Rebel XS / Canon EOS 1000D firmware version 1.06 update.
  4. Follow this link to download the Canon EOS Rebel XS / Canon EOS 1000D Instruction Manual.

I hope that helps.

I first experienced a problem with my Canon S2Is camera when it was only taking pictures of blank images. I found a "fix" recommendation which seems to have gotten rid of the black image problem. However,...

Think you need to do the fix more. Believe your shutter was previously stuck in the closed position. Now it sounds like it is stuck in the open position. Again keep trying the fix to loosen it up. Just to confirm, the "fix" you're talking about is taking repeated photos in shutter priority mode with 15 second exposures, and opening and closing the battery door while the shutter is opening, right? You may want to add some tapping of the camera against its padded usb cover in an attempt to get the shutter to jar closed.

Same problem with Canon S2IS - Image is black, getto fix no longe

I had the same problem here in America and had a run around from Canon, but they finally took my S2 IS in for a checkup and found the problem so many S1 IS and S2 IS had with the symptoms you have. It was the shutter sticking. Mine was only a few months out of warranty and they did a free one time courtesy repair they say. Many in other countries have to pay to get it repaired. Canon should have recalled it as they did on the S1 IS. They did not! The way to know it is a sticking shutter is to look down the lens with something to magnify the opening and you will see the shutter stuck closed and nothing happens except the shutter sound. The display shows a blank picture taken. All menus worked fine. There is a forum about this with hundreds of Canon owners frustrated about it.

LCD screen is blank and pictures are also blank

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open).

To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.

Printer doesn't put image on paper

The laser shutter is bad or stuck. The new one is redesigned. The shutter could be removed but that would break saftey laws. If its under warranty still have a repair center do it.
