My ibm thinkpad r51 laptop keeps shutting down randomly

I am only running the internet and it shuts off randomly

Check your heat vents and make sure they are free of dust. You could also have a CPU that is overheating. In that case we would take out the CPU, renew the thermal and replace. A short term solution and by far the least expensive would be to purchase a laptop cooling fans. They are powered by your USB ports and they cost anywhere from $30 -$50. We use them quite often on older laptops and owners who are cash strapped.

Thinkpad R51 will not boot


Try remove ALL media DVD.CD,USB,etc. Shut down, unplug, remove battery, plug in, reboot. Do you get anything on the monitor? Can you access the restore/recovery software? Open the Memory bay and reseat the Memory, open the HDD bay reseat the HDD, Reboot. If no change remove HDD, test, replace if necessary. Have you changed the CMOS battery?,

I have 2 ibm thinkpad R50p. one is constantly shutting down and the other one turns the radio off all the time and I can not get on the internet remotely


the one constantly shutting down may have heat issues. check that the fan and heatsink are not clogged.
the one messing with your radio all the time must be having a wireless RF interference problem or something. Try turning the wifi off and plugging it in with a CAT5 cord.

Cannot get my video card to s video and tv adapter to work


shut down the pc and plug in the svideo cable to the laptop and tv and then turn it back on

try to plug in a extrernal monitor and see if that works if it does your backlight went out

Fan Error


You may have a faulty fan, check to fan, it should spin freely, if not the fan needs to be replaced. The fan and heatsink assenble may also be clogged with dust, remove the dust and vacuum to clean.

did the monitor turn off when it is in idle mode? it might be the monitor power options (it might have been set that when it is idle for an X minutes it will turn off). check the monitor power settings.

have you check the temperature of your laptop. try 2 check on it through your bios. certain features of bios restarts itself when temp is to high to avoid from burning internal components

Thinkpad T40


When starting laptop on first screen hit "Delete" or "F2" (not sure which one on thinkpads) go into the setup and check the power settings restore to default and save.
