SOURCE: Sim Card Problem In LG Vu
This happened to me too. A temporary fix is turn off your phone and put it in front of a really cold air conditioner for about ten minutes. Then turn it on but make sure you keep it in front of the ac to keep it working. What happened is your sim card reader has a thermal problem so you will need to take it in unless you want to spend all your time in front of the ac (which will get expensive...)

Are you sure you are putting it in right?
Sometimes you think its in when it is hanging out alittle.
If it is in right then maybe there is somthing in the slot where the sim goes in.
Make sure there isn't or you could break the sim.
just blow on it gently and whatever is in there should come out.

SOURCE: my lg vu does not recognize the sim card.
When a SIM works in other phones and no other SIMs work in the particular phone, there is a phone issue. Somehow it has become corrupted and it will need replaced promptly. If purchased new from AT&T less than one day ago, it is under warranty as long as there is not liquid or physical damage. If purchased refurbished from AT&T less than 90 days ago, it is under warranty as long as there is not liquid or physical damage. If neither of these apply and you have insurance, use it and there will be a $50 deductible applied to your next bill. If not purchased from AT&T, seek replacement from ebay, craigslist, or a gophone (put your sim in the phone... it will have your phone number, contacts, and information and you won't have prepaid service).

SOURCE: LG Vu Sim Card problem
I've dealt with this issue ever since I bought this phone - and would rather throw it across the room and watch it burst into 1,000 pieces than have to see the error pop up again. All I did was cut out about 1-inch by1/4" inch strip from a postcard - or any heavy weight paper. In other words, not cardboard, but not copy paper. More like the weight of a vhs cover box, cereal box, etc. I inserted one end of the strip above the sim card and below the phone shell (over the part of the sim card that's not showing); and folded the rest of the paper strip (might have to tear some off) to be double ply above the part of the sim card that is showing. Put on the cover; you should have to press firmly to get it to fit on and smash the double-ply strip down. Make sure the double ply is only over the sim card, not any over the battery. This worked for me!
