Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

My Kenmore Model 106.58962702 Refrigerator runs all the time.

We recently bought it used and moved it in a utility trailer. My husband is not happy that we spent good money for a broken refrigerator, but I think there might be a logical solution!

If the fan motors are running all the time also it appears the problem will be with the cold control (thermostat). This is the only control that will cycle the compressor on and off in this unit. If there was a short in the wires the compressor would still run when the thermostat is turned off.

Hi. Make sure all your fans are working. When checking fans, open the door and push the light button in. Some models the fan stops or dampers close when the doors are opened. Put your hand in front of the vent and see if you feel air. Do the same in the refrigerator and freezer. If you feel air from both, check and see of the compressor is running. There is a fan next to the compressor and should be running when the compressor is running. You have a motherboard behind a cover on the back of your refrigerator that controls all of these functions. It could be defective. Motherboard failure is common as well as compressor and evaporator motor failure. Fan Motor failure is common for refrigerators in storage for a long period of time. The motors are weak and can't start. This goes for all new refrigerators. I sell refrigerator items on Ebay as username, themackshack. Good Luck, Mack

Check first if the distance of the fridge to the wall is enough or has similar air circulation as with its previous location. Inspect the coil at the back of the freezer for dirt or ice build up. See if cleaning the unit including the back of the freezer will help.

HI, GIve it 24 hours before you panic. If the fans are running and the compressor is running, you should be ok. Make sure the fan underneath is running. Sometimes when moved, something will get caught and stop the blade.
Please let me know if I can assist you further.

is your refridge leveled if not level it and stable. Try turn it off for a couples of hours and then put it back. does the refridge move a lot when u open it fix this refridge doesn't has to be moving when opening when on and moving this agitates the freon creates more pressure so it has a pressure switch and turns off the compressor to protect it from over or under pressure

The motor on the Kenmore refrigerator is running continuously. How do I stop it? I just cleaned out the dust from the coils underneath and replaced the kick-plate at the bottom

Hi: I've dealt with Kenmore for 30 years. Unfortunately the new model numbers don't reveal the age. I must assume it's a newer model. I'm not disputing what you said about it running all the time, but please read on. Oddly enough the new energy efficient referigators run 70 to 80% of the time. They use a smaller compressor without the big amperage start-up. The best I can describe them is that they freewheel alot. The 106......of your model number means it was built by Whirlpool. A very quite and energy efficent refrigerator. If your power bill is high get a meter from your power company, most have them. Just to double check the power consumption. Good luck Jeff

Just moved Kenmore s/s co;d spot. edges are now hot

This is caused by a failed condenser fan motor. Since it was recently moved, I suspect the fan blade has been blocked from spinning. Pull the fridge out and remove the cardboard cover near the floor. See the fan? Check for obstructions. If there are none and the fan is not spinning, reach in there and give it a whirl with your finger. It may spin right up, it may not.

If all else fails, you'll need to replace the fan motor. Write back with the model number and I'll get you part numbers and step you through the repair. Deal?
