Tried the suggested solution. No joy!
The machine journal reports a random tx and rx error and will only perform as expected immediately after warming up after a power 'off'

  • allan_bailey Jan 05, 2009

The suggested solution is straight from the manual. I have a manual and have read and implemented the instruction.

I believe the problem requires a solution other than standard. Is there any history/experience from other users?

    Thank You
This seems more like the problem. Its apparently not something simple. I will take your advice and call a service techo.

Can you reset the settings to factory/default? My next thought is that this is an indicator to call for service.

The machine has the problem of not coming out of the particular mode as it reaches in the stand-by mode.there is a small cmos battery on the main board that has to be removed but it is tightly fixed and not very easy to remove .removing that cmos battery and re-entering will wipe all the error details entered and you can set it again as you wanted.as the cmos battery is on the main board you will need to open the machine and thats very risky and dangerous so calling a service tech is much advisable.

Setting the sleep reduces the power consumption ,by turming off the fuser inside the machine ,while the machine is idle .you can choose how long the machine is idle (from 00 to 99) before it drops in to sleep mode .the timer automatically resets when the machine receives a fax or makes a copy.the factory setting is 05 minutes .while the machine is in sleep mode you will see sleep in the lcd .when you try to print a fax/list there will be short delay whilst the fuser warms upto working temprature  :----- 1)press menu -- then 1, then 6. 2)use the dial pad to enter the amount of time the machine is idle before it drops into sleep mode (00 to 99). 3)press set. 4)press stop/exit. this is the exact procedure and will definately help if followed properly. thasnks.

Brother 8360p has faxes in memory but will not print them. All the faxes ar going into the memory now. It has paper and toner, check by making a copy. the menu 2 5 4 fax command doesn't do anything,...

I have seen a few Brother faxes do this. I fixed them by turning off the power, holding down the clear/stop button and keep holding it down while you turn the power back on. Keep holding it for a few seconds then release. This will clear what ever is in the memory that is locking up the memory print. Note: you will lose any received faxes in memory by using this procedure.
This may help you restore your fax to a operation condition.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

How to stop sleep mode?

Sleep Mode
Setting the Sleep Mode reduces power consumption while the machine is idle.
You can choose how long the FAX/MFC is idle (from 00 to 99 minutes) before
it drops into sleep mode. The timer automatically resets itself after the machine
receives a fax or PC data or makes a copy. The default setting is 0 minutes.
1 Press Menu/Set, 1, 7.
2 Use the Dial pad to enter the length of
time the machine is idle before it drops into sleep mode (00 to 99 minutes),
and then press Menu/Set.
3 Press Stop/Exit.

UNABLE TO REMOVE SLEEP MODE

you can't take it off of sleep mode. the only thing you can do is set it to go into sleep mode anywhere between 0 to 99 minutes. you do that by pressing "menu, 1, and 8." there, you can input how long you want sleep mode. no way of completely disabling. i'm thinking that somehow, it must have gotten set to 0 minutes.

BROTHER FAX MACHINE 2800

Your Brother machine#s Sleep Mode function reduces power consumption while the machine is idle. You can adjust how long your Brother machine is idle (between 00 and 99 minutes) before Sleep Mode is initiated. Please note that the default setting is 00 minutes, and the timer automatically resets itself after the Brother machine receives a fax, receives data from your PC, or makes a copy. To adjust your Brother machine#s Sleep Mode setting, please follow these steps:

1. Press MENU/SET, 1 (General Setup), 7 (Sleep Mode).

2. Use the dial pad to enter the amount of time the fax machine is idle before Sleep Mode is initiated (00 to 99 minutes).

3. Press the MENU/SET key to confirm your choice.

4. Press the STOP/EXIT key to exit the menu.

NOTE: If you frequently print, copy, or fax, set the idle time long
enough to insure that you will not always have to wait for the Brother machine to warm up.
