Is the ram of the same type?Is the ram seated properly? I'm not sure what the battery has to do with you issue. Replace the Original ram and try to Start.

Laptop will not turn on

Hi,
Some laptops will not turn on if the battery pack has a fault.
Remove the battery pack (usually the pack is easily removed by unlocking a tab and lifting or sliding out the battery pack from underneath the laptop) and then try turning it on with just mains power applied.
Worse case, take your laptop to a reputable repair agent (call Dell for help) or have a computer geek friend remove your laptops 2.5 inch internal hard drive, mount it in a temp installation eg in an external hard drive case with USB connection to another computer) and extract the lost data.
A 2nd idea, check that the RAM (computer memory used by your laptops processor) has not dislodged. Usually you can get to the RAM by removing a small plastic cover underneath your laptop. The RAM looks like a large piece of gum (approx 2" x 1") with a few memory chips on it. If you have two sets, try removing both and just inserting one at a time. You may have a bad piece of RAM. Be careful of static when handling your RAM as this is damaging to electronic circuitry. Most RAM is released by pushing two tiny locking levers away from the RAM ie to the left and right. Re-inserting RAM involves inserting the RAM on an approx 35 degree angle towards the edge connector on the laptop motherboard and then gently pushing the RAM downwards until the 2 locking clips engage.
if you have no luck, ring Dell. Hopefully you have some warranty left on the laptop. if not, go to a reputable repairer.
Good luck,
Steve (Melbourne,Australia)

Unstable after RAM increased to 1.21 GB from .5 GB

If you have another PC, use ImgBurn or another program to burn a bootable CD (ISO) or bootable floppy (if your laptop has a floppy drive) of MemTest86+

If you don't have another PC to burn the image with, remove the newly-added RAM to get your laptop back to a stable state and create the CD or floppy disk.

(Reinstall your added RAM if you removed it earlier)

Boot your laptop with the MemTest86+ CD. Make sure the "Passes" goes to at least 2. If any errors are found they will be listed. If errors *are* found, then either your new RAM is not 100% compatible with your system, it is defective, or it is not compatible with the RAM already on your system (if your laptop has more than one slot for RAM).

Change the RAM configuration (replace the RAM, remove old RAM if your laptop has more than one RAM upgrade slot) and repeate the MemTest86+ test until you get through at least 2 passes without any errors.

Despite what people (even manufacturers) say, not all memory is created equally, and faster memory modules don't always work in place of slower ones. Likewise, you can have two memory modules that work perfectly fine in a system when they are alone, but don't work together in the same system.
