Question about Bosch 1600H-NG Natural Gas AquaStar AquaStar Natural Gas Tankless Water Heater...

Just not hot enough

Bosch AquaStar 1600H-NG (Natural Gas)
I can get 130 degree max out of mine. Would like about 10 degree more. Flame is all the way up and the flow is all the way down. Maybe my incoming water is just too cold? It has taken a year to get use to it, but would like hotter for dishes and washer. I have plenty of cold to mix with it. The hot water pressure has lowered significantly since it has to go thru the burn apparatus, etc, despite 3/4" pipes in the house.
Any suggestion.

I would have to say the pushrod on the watervalve is gummed up. This design of tankless heater has a mechanical watervalve. If the pushrod wasnt lubed properly at the factory it wont open the gas valve all the way.

Hi Ken Tankless Water Heaters typically heat to a 80 deg temp. rise. Per a set time it takes the water to pass through the heat exchanger. Matter of seconds So at 130 deg F. Your heater is working fine. Did you take a heat measurement or are you looking at the set points inside the cabinet? To get the 130 deg F you need to upgrade the sensor available from your Bosch Dealer. Typical output water temperature would be 110. There are scalding issues over this set point. As long as you have 3/4 id pipe in and out and have insulation on the discharge side of the heater at all exposed points of the pipe. Your system was likly installed properly. Look it is only my opinion but Bosch it the best you can get in Tankless heaters. As for the dishes. Use the sanitize setting on the dishwasher or alittle extra bleach in the dishwater. And don't forget to rince with fresh water only. For the shower or tub. Use less cold water in the mix. Tankless water heaters were designed to use less resorces aswell as energy. And I want to thank you for that.

How do i know if the control unit is bad on an aquastar 1600H

That voltage does not seem high enough. Supposed to be 1.6 VAC and I got 2.5 VAC. Do you have the water flow turned to the maximum? Is there something blocking water flow? The hydro voltage should be checked separetly from everything else, so if you can't get the VAC higher, my guess would be that's the problem.

Possible flow sensor issue. Check to see if your water pressure fluctuates a lot or is fairly steady. These units are sensitive to the pressure. take care.

The incorporation of an anti-back flow, flue pipe insert may be your solution, also the pilot flame control may need to be adjusted up a little.

Is it protected by a water softener?

Have you cleaned the inlet screen and flow valve?

Your problem is likely in one of those areas. If not them then you may have to backflush the heat exchanger (if you don't have a softener). The manual tells you how to do that.

Bosch 1600h NG not heating water hot enough

it sounds to me like the dip tube has failed. this is a plastic tube that is inside the water heater on the cold side. It is designed to put the incoming cold water at the bottem of the tank allowing heated water out at the top. when this tube deteriorates the cold water mixes at the top of the tank instead of the bottom. a new dip tube is about 5 bucks but must be inserted on the cold side by someone with plumbing experience.
