Question about Sewing Machines

Loud thumping noise CS-6000i

My machine recently started making a really loud thumping sound when sewing and also the presser foot jerks up and down. I cleaned the bobbin case, switched the bobbin, changed the needle, and re-threaded the machine and no better. Help!

Hmmm... Can you determine where the thumping is coming from?

In my experience thumping like this is because something has gotten out of time. You might be able to see it if you take the bobbin, and needle plates off. Take off the threads, top and bottom and you might have to take out the bobbin carrier too. Making sure to understand how it goes back in. Take off the presser foot and any presser foot holder. Locate the shuttle point. Hand rotate the machine in the direction it normally turns (NEVER backwards) and watch what the needle does. Does the needle hit the shuttle? Does the shuttle bounce up and down?

You also might try grasping the presser foot bar and the lever at the same time. Check for play of the bar by gently moving the presser foot bar up and down while "feeling" for unusual movement.

Even if you determine the issue... you'll need to take it in for repair. There are no publicly available service manuals for your machine (or my brother for that matter)

You also might want to check your bobbin for rough spots, use very fine sand paper to smooth them out if you find any.

SOURCE: I have a Brother CS-770.

Hi. It's very likely that the needle is inserted wrong. Take the needle out and make sure that the flat shank of the needle is facing away from you (to the rear of the machine).

Try this and let me know if it helps, ok?

SOURCE: lould noise when sewing. already, cleaned inside,

Have you taken your throat plate off and cleaned that out? You have to take a stubby short screwdriver and remove the throat plate. Sometimes, lint and cloth build up in there and it looks like felt almost. I was surprised when mine had it, I always followed the standard way of cleaning and lubricating until my friend told me about this. I was shocked, to say the least, that she was right. And my machine quieted right down. Hope this solves your problem

Sounds like something in the machine in the head that makes it go up and down. either wear or something loose. I would have it checked by a Brothers repair shop

Make sure the foot control is plugged in correctly. Make sure you have your foot off of the foot control when starting machine.

Loud sound with brand new Singer 4111

Oil the "feed dogs" (movement under the pressure foot) make sure your needle has not slide down. Try sewing on lighter weight fabric until you solve the problem. No clapping noise is good.

My brother started making a loud noise when sewing pant fabrics

Your machine is complaining because it doesn't have the power to push through the layers of fabric. That clunking noise is the gears in the machine skipping and being sheered off (or it will be eventually) STOP!

If you feel that you need to continue... stop when it does this noise and use the HAND WHEEL. You'll also need to make sure that the presser foot remains level while going over thick seams.

CE-5000 thumping sound when I sew, messy stitching

any sound out of the ordinary could mean that a part is worn or fixing to break or something is loose
it's very possible that the machine needs to be serviced

My machine makes a "knocking" sound.

Needle bar probably catch the presser foot, because it does not return the the right position. Clean and oil the presser foot assembly. There is no tension adjustment there. It should move freely about 1 cm.

clean under the needle plate

How do I fix thumping/clunking sound?

make sure your needle is facing the right way, some needles if you look at the front and back you will see a groove side and a flat side sometimes it is hard to tell the difference depending on needle style.. hold it up to light and look at it from the side the difference will be slight but you will see a difference groove should face the back or if your presser foot is out of wack (lol so technical terminology) it could cause needle breaks and noise you can detect damage to the presser foot if this is happening.... only other thing i can suggest is to make sure bobbin is securely snapped into the housing if not it can cause problems with the needle picking up the bobbin
