Be aware if using a box for signal to the set it also has CC---look in menu on both set and box if a box is used.

SOURCE: closed captioning

I am sorry you don't. You will need the original remote. I have enclosed a link where you can see the original remote and order one if you want to. If you see the picture, there is a caption button on the remote to turn on and off the closed captions Good Luck. SOURCE: Closed Caption won't turn off

The following should solve your problem if you have a comcast digital cable box and possibly for others.
Hey, it's worth a shot!

Turn the TV Power on and cable box power off.
Press the MENU button on the front of the cable box.
Scroll down to the caption item on the menu and toggle it to "disabled"
Press the menu button again to close.

Hope this helps!

SOURCE: Closed caption

Go into the setup menu and turn off closed captioning there, or just restore the factory presets. I believe this model has a menu button on the front of the tv.

You didn't ask for it, but here's a link to the user manual, in case you need it.

I have a philips magnavox tv with the original remote. closed caption constantly (writing script)comes on tv screen, even though the remote has a cc button,i press it until cc off comes on, the cc goes off...

You're not doing anything wrong. Your TV is somehow turning the cc on "all by itself". Some bit is getting flipped inside the TV, turning the cc on.

either that or there is some sort of rf or ir interference near the TV that is mimicking the CC button on the remote.

Have you pressed the cc button on the remote, verified the cc is "off" on the TV and then removed the batteries from the remote for a while to make sure there isn't something hinky with the remote???

Tv screen has script words showing

It sounds like you have the closed captioning turned on. Your remote control may have a button marked 'CC'. If so, press the button repeatedly until the words disappear. If you do not have a CC button then you will have to go into the TV's menu, also called setup on some sets, and turn the closed captioning off.
