Acer Aspire 5315 won't boot, black screen

I have an Acer Aspire 5315 and it has a black screen when I try to boot it. I have connected it to a good monitor and it didn't help. I replaced the hard drive with a good hard drive, and nothing. I tried to boot without the battery and it didn't work. I tried to boot with a boot disk, too.

When I hit the power button, it makes a bit of a chugging sound and then stops after a minute or so. It doesn't beep. The fan seems to be starting up.

I'm stumped.

I am having the exact same problem, it started after i let the battery die right down. Ive only had it as new for about 3 months now and if it is broken and can't be fixed just wanted all my files off it as they are really important. The night it died i had been downloading songs and wasn't sure if this was the problem. If someone could help, it would be brilliant

I had the same symptoms on friends laptop. She had nothing to lose so gave me carte blanc.

Took out battery (to eliminate as problem) plugged in power, and powered up

Power light OK, HD flashed, CD flashed, then black screen. Powered down.

Did the following:

1) took cover off of fan/circuit board (see http://www.insidemylaptop.com/ for details). (4 screws)

2) take out fan (3 screws) and find huge amount of gunk on cooling fins at fan disch. Blew out with compressed air. Also cleaned fan blades.(reboot shows didn't fix.)

3) Repeated step 2, Pulled out memory sticks and cleaned terminals by rubbing with lint free cloth. Replaced memory sticks.

4) System boots normally. Replaced battery. Boots normally.

DAMN I'M GOOD!

Excellent tip. Saved me buying a new laptop. It looked like a band of felt stuck in the fan. I'd say that was kicking off some temp sensor or something. Mine would run for random amounts of time, but now it's rockin' again! Huge thanks to rpic257

You do not say what OS you are running. You could try F12 at bootup to see if you can get to the boot manager that way.

On a Acre Aspire 5315, on boot up, after the bios splash screen all i get is a black screen with a flashing curser.. i have tried different windows disc's to try to get it to do anything but no...

press and hold f8 to reach your boot options menu, then select safe mode without networking. you may be automatically redirected to a windows repair utility. If this is the case, let it run, it will take a while to complete. The system will then restart itself and attempt to boot again. If this does nothing for your, try pressing and holding f12 on boot up and select the system repair/scan option. If all else fails, You can download and burn HBCD iso and run the partition recovery program. but you should be able to boot without it..

GOOD LUCK AND PLEASE RATE THIS POST!!!!
