Replace the CD Rom, they are available on the net. You may pay $35-$50 and you'll be home free. You may even find an updrade i.e. DVD burner, etc. They are also very easy to replace - one screw on the bottom of laptop and just pull the CD unit out.

Everytime i turn my inspiron 1501 on, it makes a loud noise like an alarm. At first I thought it was because I had too many files stored on my computer. But, then I erased several files, and now I have...

Using the information you provided in your clarification, I would say that the noise you are hearing is most likely a function of either the computer itself or the operating system, and is meant to signal the computer is successfully booting up. This feature is non-removable.

My dell laptop inspiron 1501 not burning or reading cds

Hi,

Please try with any bootable disk,if the system is not booting with the disk then the issue is with the ODD and it needs to be replaced(be sure that first boot device is cdrom in BIOS).

If booting then go to device manager and uninstall the cd/dvdROM drive and secondary IDE controllers and restart the system twice and check.

If fails then lens went bad and CD ROm drive needs to be replaced.

Dell Inspiron 1420 Factory Setting Recovery

back up all your files first because everything will be wiped out.

Turn on machine, Put the recovery cd on the cd rom drive, before it boots to windows hit the F1 to go into bios, on the startup set the cd rom the primary to boot machine on cd then follow the instructions from there..

Hi,
Try going to the drive, in my computer ** should be named CD/DVD Or D: E: right click and press eject. Alternatively:-
if you look carefully at the dvd drive, it has a small pinhole in the front drawer. push a paper-clip sized piece of metal, or small jewellers screwdriver into the hole, this will force the drawer open.

Cd rom not working

Try reseating the CD drive. Remove the battery and make sure the AC adaptor is not connected. Turn the laptop over and locate the locking screw. It will have a little "Pad Lock" symbol next to the screw. Once phillips screw is removed, pry the securing screw tab to push the drive from the chassis with a screwdriver. Re-insert the CD drive and fasten the screw back into the bottom of the laptop.

If you still have an issue with the CD drive, please feel free to contact me for futher diagnosis.
