I see so many here with no sound/no picture issues:

ISSUES:

1. IF sound main fuse/s are good.
2. If no power or standby check main fuse, standby power supply and any signs of damage you can see---burnt parts etc.
3. almost all these sets the troubleshooting involves checking voltages on the main power board to narrow down the problem.
4. Be safe and if you do not know what you are doing don't open the set.

Answers to issues:

1. RE:fuses---if a blown fuse is found get a good replacement(not the generic ones like Radio Shack). Many fuses are special even aside from amperage--Don't put a higher rated amperage fuse in the set for any reason.

2. RE: power supply in set: if total dead aside from main fuse the set uses a standby power supply that runs 7/24 and a main supply (some are combined and some not.

Here aside from checking fuses you want to examine all the filter caps on the power/standby to see if any are puffed up or buldged up in some fashion--I attach a photo of a good one---top should be silver metal and PERFECTLY flat and have no brown material coming out on top or bottom.

What happens in the standby area is they use caps with too low a voltage rating (saves money) which causes them to fail in a year or two---the standby runs 7/24 and the heat dries out the caps and they fail.

3. Trouble shooting consists of the above and then at some point you have to buy and try a board to see if it fixes it or not.

4. Safety first--no TV set is worth getting injured or even killed over. If set is opened at least look for puffed up and bad caps like in this photo. when i turn tv on picture will come on then in a f - 11_6_2012_6_34_03_pm.jpg11_6_2012_6_34_19_pm.jpg

I have a Samsung Plasma TV (SPS4243X/XAA). When I turn the TV on, the picture fades to black after about 1 minute. I can turn the TV off and back on and it fades after about 5 seconds. What is wrong?

Fault to its main digital board. Short circuited component/s at it. Contact any service technician; or the authorized service center. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ . In most cases, the main board might have to be replaced. If so, a software [firmware] update too might be necessary.

I have an RCA HD52W59 TV that will turn on and picture is fine for awhile, then it will fade to total black. Still has sound and does not power off. Nothing will show on screen, not even menu options....

Thats a deflection problem which is causing the CRTs to shut down during deflection loss. The deflection board will need replacement. You can get replacement deflection boards from www.tvrepairworld.com

Tv comes on for 10 seconds then fades to a green tint then turns completely green for a few seconds than turns off

Hi,
Symptom shows tv got problem with green picture tube that need to be replaced.
Rear projection tv has 3 picture tubes, red-green-blue to make color picture.
Since its an old model so spare parts would hardly be available and local tv repair shop will help you to arrange required part, if they can.
Thanks.

you are experiencing one or more of three things
1.the crt itself is damaged
2. the vertical ic on blue crt board is bad
3. the focus block is bad
if you hire a sony authorized technician they should be well aware of this problem.
