Card slot door will suddenly not close - eject button sticks out

When I push the CF card slot in the eject button pops out and blocks the card slot door from closing. I've used the camera for 2 years - this is a sudden problem.

Nikon coolpix 8400: I cannot get the stick in the card slot to stay down. It will still eject the card but it will not stay down either before or after loading card, help! Not a problem before

Oops I thought I had answered that one. Looks like a mechanical problem, the latch can be broke. I don't think you can solve this problem yourself. If nothing got into the memory slot, I think something broke. Only once try another CF card, but if it is the same there must be a mechanical defect.

I closed camra without memory card in, now I cannot put card in as spring has not returned up.

I'm sorry for the difficulties you're experiencing in inserting the CF Card in the Memory Card slot on the Camera. Based on the information you have provided, it appears that the spring in the slot which gives pressure for the card is not working as expected. Please check the below picture and insert the card as shown in the figure even if the CF card eject button fully extend to resolve the issue. Close the door firmly after putting the Card in the slot.

How can i switch to a memory card?

Most digital cameras use either a secure digital (SD), compact flash (CF), memory stick, multi-media cards or XDcards.

Step 1: Power the camera off and determine what type of card your camera uses. You can check the owners manual, go to the manufacturer's site, or look on the camera to find out what card you use.

This is a picture of an "SD" card in a Digital Camera.

Step 2: Insert the memory card into the camera by locating the memory card slot on the bottom or side of the camera body. Open the memory card door by using an "Eject" button or sliding the panel to the side. Insert the memory card as advised by the icon on the inside of the door. Close the door and turn the camera on.

Step 3: Format the memory card for the camera. Many digital cameras will do this for you once the memory card in inserted and the camera is powered on. On some cameras you can do this manually:
Press your camera's "Menu" button, select "Tools," and find the "Format" feature. Select "Format" and press "OK" or "Set" to format the memory card. Press the shutter button to exit "Menu" mode.

To remove the memory card, open the camera as you were able to in Step 2. Then press the end of the card in and release. The card will slide out of the camera.

Some accessories may be required to transfer media to your computer. There may already be a slot in your computer for the card, if not, an SD to usb kit can be purchased online or from a local electronics vendor for a reasonable price.

Canon Si5 Lens Error message. Have tried suggestions on line

Welcome to FixYa.

There where wo reasons why do you receive a "lens error".

1. CF card slot cover or battery cover opened with camera on
2 . CF card slot cover or battery cover opened while camera was recording to CF card

In this case you have to ensure that CF card cover and battery cover is closed while camera is turn on.

You also need to be careful not to block the camera lens when turning on. Lens will have issues while retracting if your hands or even small thing that will block the lens to retrack while in motion of turning on.

Thank you for using FixYa.

CF card slot cover

Is the card inserted correctly?
Is the card release button- under the cover locked down?
This needs two pushed to get it to lock in.

Yes I had the same problem, however, where is says "push to eject," it means to push the the memory card down and it will eject. You pushed down the latch for the plastic door cover. Try pushing something into the hole so the camera thinks the door is closed. I am still having trouble with mine. Hope this helps alittle.

$50 says you bent the pins in the socket (or broke one off). Use a good light to look into the base of the socket and check for bent pins.

Canon A310 Won't Power Up.

Try checking this... on the battery door (the outside door) along the top edge (over the CF card pointer embossed in the back of the door) you should see a little plastic piece that pokes out... tis is supposed to push a small switch located in a slot over the battery compartment. It's the sensor that tells if the battery door is open or closed.. if the plastic part breaks off or gets chipped it wont push the button and the camera will not turn on when the shutter door is opened.
