Question about HP Pavilion dv4000 Notebook

HP DV4000 Series not detecting newly installed DVD±RW LightScribe

I own a HP DV4000 series Laptop that came with a standard CD RW/DVD Rom, HP part # 391649-6C0. I recently purchased a DVD±RW LightScribe, 8X IDE Dual Layer Drive (HP part #396704-001).

This new drive is supposed to be compatible with my laptop. The new drive is able to play DVD's and recognizes CD's but is not recognized as a recorder. I tried using several different programs, (Roxio, Nero, Sonic) to burn DVD's or CD's but I get a message from the programs saying "the program could not detect any supported decoders. Please ensure your recorder is properly connected."

I tried reinstalling the DVD/CD drive & updating the drivers but have had no success.

Is this drive defective? Do I need to change a setting in the Bios or anywhere else? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I received the HP DV4000 DVD+-R/RW CD+RW DRIVE LIGHTSCRIBE yesterday and had it installed today. Unfortunately, the drive only works as a CD or DVD player. I am unable to copy any discs or use the lightscribe feature. I have a HP Pavilion DV4000 series and this drive should be compatible. I checked for Driver updates and all is current and has the best driver installed for this drive. Do you have any suggestions why the Burner is not working. Your auction states that the drive is in working condition. Please advise as soon as possible. Thanks

The type of CD/DVD recorder is suppose to be automatically detected by your Plug N Play portion of your BIOS. Reboot and press the "F" key combination that will bring up the boot process as opposed to the CMOS Settings. See if the correct DVD model shows up as one of your boot electives. You may be able to change it in that window. If not then reboot to BIOS and change it there.
