i don't understand the comments. but I do know now the model: Acer Aspire Tw! I found memory upgrade on crucial and newegg websites both said to add: DDR PC3200, DDR (non-ECC) (1x2 for a total of 2GB). Is that the same you are suggesting?

  • Ann-Margaret Nov 05, 2012

    Acer Aspire T135, sorry, typo.

  • Ann-Margaret Nov 05, 2012

    I think I found it: Crucial 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model CT2KIT12864Z40B - OEM --on newegg.com. Yes?

SOURCE: Acer aspire m5100, AMD Athlon

Acer official site says:-
Up to 4 GB DDR2 533/667/800 MHz SDRAM
(dual-channel support on four DIMMs)

Try these bus speeds and for dual-channel support read this article :-

Dual-channel architecture requires a dual-channel-capable motherboard and two or more DDR, DDR2 SDRAM, or DDR3 SDRAM memory modules. The memory modules are installed into matching banks, which are usually color coded on the motherboard. These separate channels allow each memory module access to the memory controller, increasing throughput bandwidth. It is not required that identical modules be used, but this is often recommended for best dual-channel operation. It is possible to use a single-sided module of 512 MB and a double-sided module of 512 MB in dual-channel configuration, but how fast and stable it is depends on the memory controller.

If the motherboard has two pairs of differently colored DIMM sockets (the colors indicate which bank they belong to, bank 0 or bank 1), then one can place a matched pair of memory modules in bank 0, but a different-capacity pair of modules in bank 1, as long as they are of the same speed. Using this scheme, a pair of 1 GB memory modules in bank 0 and a pair of matched 512 MB modules in bank 1 would be acceptable for dual-channel operation.

Modules rated at different speeds can be run in dual-channel mode, although the motherboard will then run all memory modules at the speed of the slowest module. Some motherboards, however, have compatibility issues with certain brands or models of memory when attempting to use them in dual-channel mode. For this reason, it is generally advised to use identical pairs of memory modules, which is why most memory manufacturers now sell "kits" of matched-pair DIMMs. Several motherboard manufacturers only support configurations where a "matched pair" of modules are used. A matching pair needs to match in.

Good luck

Hello, I am the technician that will be assisting you today. My name is Norman-Wynne Damstra.

Welcome to Fixya Van Pham.

I have published a guide that deals with this very topic, it is entitled How do I reset my BIOS/CMOS to defaults?
You also may want to see the following guide entitled, How to Remove the Side Panels of My Computer Chassis!!!

Basically you will need to remove the CMOS battery found on the mainboard for a few seconds and then reinsert it again.

Take care!

I can install windows 8 on MY pc?? cpu:amd sempron

I don't think you can run Windows 8 on your system.
What Microsoft say are the minimum requirements for a system to run Windows 8 can be found here
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows-8/system-requirements
First, the processor needs to have certain features - SSE2, NX and PAE which I don't think the Sempron 3000+ has; and you be able to run only the 32-bit version if could run that because you don't have enough RAM, and your processor is a 32-bit processor.
Secondly, the 9250 isn't up to it. It doesn't have WDDM drivers, because it's not a true Direct 9X graphics card; it not being a DirectX 9 card is enough to preclude from running Windows 6 anyway.

Your processor, RAM and graphics card might be upgradeable to be able to support a 32-bit version of W8, but that may be more expensive than buying a (new) W8 computer anyway.

Anyway that's what my brief study of the topic has lead me to believe. It's a no.

On the other hand, see these:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-windows_install/amd-sempron-3000-for-windows-8/9b9c1659-63dc-4069-99fa-eb8e08040738
and
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-1806278/install-windows-cpu-amd-sempron-3000-ram-512-ddr-ddr-gpu-radeon-9250.html
(found by searching the internet with "running windows 8 on a sempron 3000+")
They say "Yes".

So I think more research needs to be done. Note the second article says the system will have terrible performance.

Greetings. I wanna upgrade my processor from amd sempron 3200+ 1.8 ghz to athlon 2 x2 260 processor. But when I put the athlon 2 x2 260 proc, it didnt work.

Did you check to see if it would handle that type of upgrade? Maybe that's your problem, it's not compatible. Research and see if it can handle it, then we can find a solution if it can.

I've AMD sempron 2400 1.66 ghz processor with 256mb RAM, can in upgrade it to 1GB Ram?

yes without any doubt the ram you should need is DDR 1 or DDR 333mhz or 400mhz either one should do and probably can be found very cheap on ebay. if you really only want 1gb probably best to have 2x512mb sticks as some motherboards didnt like the 1GB modules and needed to be flashed. but if your mainboard is pretty good you will probably find that it can take 2gb

I want to upgrade from a AMD Sempron processor 2800+ 1.6GHz 192MB to a faster AMD processor with more RAM. I have an Acer 3002LC laptop. Can you advise me what CPU will support this...

My advice to you is to purchase a faster/newer laptop.

A new processor plus labour to install the CPU will cost a substantial amount of money and the performance gain will be marginal. Also RAM bottle neck come into affect as 192mb of RAM is not going to cut it, now-days you need at least 2GB of it. I myself prefer AMD their new AMD Athlon 2 X2 CPUs perform really well.

Hi Paul,

Correct, you have to use the same type, but you can upgrade to a faster CPU.

According to the specs for your computer it can take the following:

AMD Sempron processor 2600+ to 3300+, 333MHz FSB
AMD Athlon processor 2800+ to 3200+, 400MHz FSB

See:

http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/desktop/0000/Acer/AspireT135/AspireT135sp2.shtml

The Athlon's are better...faster Bus. The Sempron is cheaper.

The 2 processors you describe are very similar. The difference between the 2 is that the first one is capable of running 64-bit operating systems and applications. The second one is strictly for 32-bit systems.

The next question will probably be, "What do I have?" Probably a 32-bit system. You can go with the 64-bit CPU and be safe as it can run both. You can see what your old one is by the revision number on the top of the CPU. You can use the following comparison chart to see the differences:

Sempron 3100+ Comparison

I hope this has been some help. Maybe it has just caused more questions. Just ask.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Need to look at the motherboard specs along with the processor "Socket". It will usually be a 754 or 939 depending on what your motherboard says. I wouldn't try too fast and set yourself up for disappointment. I would upgrade the RAM before the processor.
