Emerson ceiling fan remote won't work

Because it's a wall remote. Remotes will work fan & light with one hot wire. You should have a receiver in the canopy of the fan.

Try pulling the chain once and then try the wall control. Is it a wall REMOTE or dual control? Do you have the number of the wall control?

Was it an add-on light? If so, pull the light switch once and try the remote again. If not, you probably need a new receiver.

The light on the remote is a battery light. First mistake was buying a store brand fan which are mostly low-end parts. Try adding a different remote w/receiver.

Check to make sure your fan is set on the high speed & the light is at the on possition with the pull chains.

The problem is with the remote receiver attached to the fan body. It is a small device that acts as a remote switch and this is cradled in a pocket inside the ceiling fan itself. If you are handy, you can replace this device yourself. I believe you need to purchase a new kit from Lowes that comes with a matched transmitter and receiver for fan control. Unfortunately, Mark it's really not as simple as it sounds, to connect the wires properly. Because of that third red traveler wire for the 3-way switch. Actually, ceiling fans don't work well, when a 3-way switch is involved, because it was designed only for lighting convenience. When the fan is turned on, the other ceiling lights will start to glow, whether they are ON or not..

You would be much better served if you can locate another line to come off of and wire to that. Of course,y you won't have the convenience of a wall switch to operate it. But, that's what the pull chains on the fan are for.

I just recently purchased a hunter ceiling fan w/light and remote. Had it installed and wall switch would not work, only remote. I contacted Hunter company directly about this problem and I was told that they redesigned their fans with remotes so that only the remote works for turning off power to fan. The person who made that made that BRILLIANT change should be fired. So to those of you who own a newer hunter an product with a remote ne your wall switch will not work tat s te reason why.
