Question about Heating & Cooling

What capacitor should I order for my outside unit.

I was told that the capacitor was week in my 2009 outside unit. Can this be true? It looked like an easy part to swap, but I can't find a part number to order.

The starting capacitor was connected at the one line of the compressor motor then the value was label at the body of he capacitor, like 450v/ 5uf. to determined that the capacitor is totally worn out you will need a analog tester or a capacitance meter. usually if the starting capacitor get bad the motor doesn't run or hard to rotate.

Yes, if you are talking about a heat pump. It you have an electric furnace inside, the electric elements are for emergency heat. Otherwise, unless you switch it manually at the thermostat, the heatpump (outdoor unit) will run all year around. If you want to use your inside heater (electric heater) just switch your thermostat to "emergency heat" and it will turn on the electrical elements instead of the outdoor unit. This way will make your elec. bill higher tho. The heat pump is much more efficient. Hope this helps you , have good day

It is a Ruud UAKA-024JA2 combination of air conditioner and central heater. The outside air conditioner fan stopped running but buzzed. The capacitor is out of order. Do you have instructions how to locate...

Hello, the capacitor is a round or oval metal can that is located in the control pnael of the outside unit. In order to replace it you must turn off power to you unit and unhook the wires that go into the capacitor, but make sure you label them so you remember where they go back. When you unhook the wires take a screw driver with a insulated handle and put in across the terminals of the capacitor to discharge it. Then just remove and install new one.

I have Goodman A/C Unit which was working yesterday morning but the outside unit will not come one. I was told to locate the reset button but unable to locate the button.

This could actually be a capacitor issue and pressing the reset button wouldn't do much good. Go to the back of your outside unit and look inside the access panel with the electrical warning sticker on it; if the capacitor is bowed up at the top, it needs to be replaced. If it turns out to be the capacitor, follow this link for a new capacitor replacement kit, it will save you hundreds of more dollars than calling an HVAC repair company to charge you an arm and a leg. The kit also comes with the proper tools and parts needed as well as detailed instructions on how to replace the part yourself.
I hope this helps!

My outside a/c condensing unit's fan runs, but inside vent air is not cold. compresser may not be running. inside vent air was cold last week. Janitrol ckj361ab is model # of outside unit.

Start the unit and go outside to see if the insulated pipe is sweating or cold, hot air should be discharging from top of outside unit. Since the breaker is not tripping, my best guess is the compressor is not operating. You might have to replace the capacitor.

If you can hear the compressor operating, then most
likely needs refrigerant

I have a CK49-1B and it stopped working yesterday. I can hear a buzzing noise outside at the unit. The fan won't spin. I have tried the inside breaker and that seems fine. Thoughts

That sound like it may be the capacitor. Luck for you it is around a $20 fix. A compressor could run you hundreds. Turn off the power to the outdoor unit and take off the electrical cover on the outdoor condenser. There should be a part that looks like the pic below. If the top is bulged its a true sign of a blown cap. If it looks fine, take it off and get it tested. If you have a multi-meter that reads micro farads you can test it yourself. There is a sticker on the side of the cap that will give you a uf rating. Probably around a 35/5. Grainger carries these otherwise you can order them online. Let me know what you find. 2e66ec2.gif

It simply stopped. The box outside is switched on.

I am going to assume you are talking about the outside condenser. If the thermostat is calling for heat and the furnace blower is on, you may want to check the capacitor inside the outside unit. Disconnect the power to the outdoor unit and open up the electrical compartment. There is either a round or oval silver cylinder inside by the contactor. That is the capacitor. If the top is buldged it is a true sign of a capacitor failure. Remove the cap and take to your local HVAC Wholsaler or contractor to have them replace it. It is a very common part and should cost you around 15 to 25 dollars. Let me know if this helps.

Where is the capacitor located on a coleman heatpump

If you're talking about the outside fan, look where the wire goes into the outside unit. The capacitor will be somewhere near the circuit board and will be round or oval and metal or plastic. If you're talking about the inside unit it will be with the electrical control in the air handler. Write down where the wires go. The terminals on the capacitor will be marked and for the outside unit you will either have 1 that runs both the fan and compressor or a seperate one for each. If you have 1 that runs both the wires must be reconnected to the right terminals. They will be marked COM, FAN, HERM(stands for compressor). Take the old one with you to get a new one. Let me know what you find.

Samsung LCD TV (Model LA40R71BD) - Trouble turning on. Been told a matter of changing the power module...true? If so, where is the best place to order one?

Actually you might not have to change the Power supply, it may be repairable,If you open the unit and look at the power supply look for too capacitors that have become puffy on there tops. All capacitors should be flat on top.Just in case you are not sure what a cap looks like they look like little batteries standing horizontaly on the board. The value of these caps should read around 1000uf at 10v.
Replace them with 1000uf 16v. Also note the the caps are polarized + and - make sure you install them the same way, the white strip on the caps is the ground pin.
