Question about Audiovox Xpress R XM Satellite Radio Receiver with Vehicle Kit

Open Question

Screen goes blank

I have a new Audiovox Express and I will have full signal but the screen will go blank. I still have audio and can turn the channels but obviously I don't know what I'm turning to. This is very sporadic. If I turn the power off and wait a few seconds it does not help, however if I leave it off for a good amount of time it will normally be fine when I turn it back on. I can also leave it on and eventually it will come back on. Like I said I have full signal and still hear the Audio, so not sure what's going on. Thanks in advance for any advice!

SOURCE: I have an Audiovox XM receiver that has no audio

A IC has become unsoldered because of heating/cooling cycles. Basically, you can reflow (resolder using hot air or infrared) the board or you can buy a new radio.

SOURCE: Audiovox EX Express not transmitting on any frequency nor through the audio out. Signal strength is perfect but no output at all.

Thats a strange problem. It could just be the dock, but you can get a whole new XpressEZ and car kit for the same price as the dock here:

My roady xt stopped getting channels 70-78, I've had the signal resent but it still won't work?

First, make sure that you have a very good signal - check channel 1 audio. Then go to the MENU and 'RESET' to factory settings.
Then call SiriusXM and have them send a 'REFRESH' signal - leave it on channel 1 for about 20 minutes, then check and see if you have Channel #4 - if you do, then dial-up Channel 71 - you should have Sinatra - UNLESS, you have a MUSIC-ONLY subscription, which limits your channels to only the specified ones. But, with XM Select or higher, you should have channel 71 again. Let me know how it goes. Good luck.

No sirius id, no presets, all cleared... activation didn't help

You need to call sirius @ 1-888-GET-SIRIUS (438-7474) and they will remotly reset the radio for you. This has happened to me twice and this is the only way i have found to fix it.

I have an Audiovox XM receiver that has no audio output. I tried another cradle and still no audio output. This is the second unit that has done this.

This is a very old radio, and your antenna could be shot too. Try another antenna first.

When I press the power button the screen flashes once & then goes blank again. Some times I see a quick flash of "XM-Radio" This started happening overnight one night-nochanges on our part.

I had exactly the same problem with my Roady XT. The power supply gradually failed, with the symptom that the reception kept getting weaker and more spotty. Finally, the Roady would not turn on. The screen flashed as you describe. I happened to have another 5VDC, 2A power supply in the closet from some other electronic gismo from the past (I save the power supplies just in case). the connector on the old power supply was not correct for the Roady XT, but a little surgery put the new plug on the old supply... (verified by a volt meter). When I plugged it in the Roady quickly turned on and showed full signal strength. This had never happened in 2 years of use. Apparently this radio needs more power than the stock power supply can provide. Now it "loads" stations in 2-3 seconds and never fades.

XM radio express blank screen

I had the same problem with my Pioneer Inno Gex-Inno2BK XM radio receiver. One evening while leaving work, I gently took it out of the cradle & the screen suddenly went completely blank & all white. I could still hear music but there was no screen visible. Solution is this: (1) Gently remove the back cover which covers the battery. (2) Gently remove the dark blue square battery which is only about 1 inch (width) by 3/4 inch (height) by 1/4 of an inch in thickness. I removed mine by holding the receiver upside down & gently shaking the battery with one hand until the battery came out into my other hand. After about 4 or 5 gently shakes, it came out. (3) Wait about 15 seconds. (4) Place battery back into XM radio receiver being careful to line the copper power receptable on the battery with a corresponding surface inside the receiver. Each copper area is only about 1/10 of an inch by 1/10 of an inch. Use this as a guide when putting the battery back in to make sure it's lined up properly. (5) Gently slide the cover back in place & let it snap into place. (6) Turn receiver back on by pushing power button like normal. (7) XM receiver should boot up with a full display just like new. All recorded songs are still in place. Nothing has been lost. Problem solved. Root cause of problem is probably some type of boot-up issue with the receiver in which the battery (i.e., the power supply) just happened to be slightly ajar...which also persisted even when placing the receiver back in the cradle until the above steps were taken. The steps above worked beautifully for me...Hope it works for you as well! Have A Great Day...Tom Armstrong
