THE KENWOOD KDC-BT645U SAYS PROTECT ON THE SCREEN AND DOESNT PLAY
Check your speakers and speaker wires for and shorts and/or grounds. If they all check good try resetting the radio. If there is a reset switch, it will probably be on the sub panel when you remove the face. If there is no reset switch, you can reset it by disconnecting the wire harness for a minute or so.

Protect:- The speaker wire has a short circuit, or touches the chassis of the vehicle, then the Protect function is activated. Wire or insulate the cable properly and then press the reset button. If the "Protect" code does not disappear, consult your nearest service centre.

you could have a shorted speaker wire, a blown speaker; or the output ic in the deck itself could be bad.
SOURCE: I get a message Protect. All other controls are
Usually the protect is a safe mode to indicate that your set is unsafe. Starrt by checking the speakers, speaker wires for shorting. detach the speaker lines and power on the set for confrimation. check in power/auxially circuits in the set. it is possible that your mechanism drive / audio output drive Ic's could have shorted. Most of these cirrcuits have an error detection of higher current to cut off power and issue a protect warning. so discoonect the IC power to confirm. Hope this helps. Good day
