Re: LCD broke

Go to Samsung to check the possibility of a replacement - but I don't think you will like the answer. Tell you what go to Jessops- they sell a pack of LCD screen protectors .Its like a very heavy duty Sellotope just cut a piece to size and roll it over

Hi, my son dropped my LZ2 camera and now it starts when I power it on, all menus and functions seems to be ok, but no image is displayed in the LCD. Any ideas what's going on?

The LDC screen most likely broke the screen did not crack by the actual underlying LCD screen broke the only option is to replace the screen or have it replaced at a local camera shop

Broken screen

First if you have a broke LCD " Cracked" than ok its bad.
but if the back-light is not working and you cannot see a image easily it most likely is something else.
  1. remove the case screws
  2. remove both sides of the case
  3. on the lens side their is a shinny black piece of tape VERY carefully remove it
  4. release the ribbon cables
  5. take off the battery door
  6. de-solider the red and black wires closes to the battery door REMEMBER how they go
  7. turn the camera over
  8. on the right hand side there it you control board or cable
  9. VERY VERY carefully pry up the control board it can rip very easily
  10. now you can remove your LCD you might have to pry it up CAREFULLY because it might be taped down.
Hope this helps It is not that easy to repair digital cameras if you feel unsure about the repair leave it to the experts it would only cost you around 85.00 + Shipping to have the camera fixed. I repair these all the time and Know it is not that easy to fix.

Replacing screen on Olympus IR-500

I would suggest this is not going to be a viable task. at any level You taking it to pieces and then finding replacement parts. Contact Olypus for advice My guess is that a 'repair' will be near the cost of replaceing the camera. Photo stores [such as Jessops here in the UK] seel Screen protection material. this is like a heavy duty self adhesive tape- which can be cut to size for your screen. That I suggest is a low cost fix.

Part number for screen

The short answer - you probably will not find a replacement as a new part. I get the impression that camera's like most small electricals have no 'parts' infrastructure- they tend to modular and service is by replacement . This may modify for High-End devices but is certainly true for the 'run o' the mill stuff. Your local Photo store [Jessops in the UK- do] probably stocks LCD screen protector tape - this come in packs of patches -like a heavy duty Sellotape- this may well keep you going. If you do get lucky - let us know- especially if it is a UK source
