Need way more information, Gill.

I'm going to go out on a limb and paraphrase your problem as:
You installed a new hard drive, reloaded the operating system and Windows (XP?) loads, but you have no volume control and hear no sounds from the speaker.

If I have guessed correctly, then you probably need to load the sound card driver.

If I have missed the boat, please submit your problem in more detail beginning with a detailed description of the problem, the operating system, how long ago this happened and what happened that may have contributed to the problem.

Visiting the e-machine website should get you to the support page with sound card drivers.

If you can't find it, let me know.

To whom it may concern. im looking to reboot my acer 6935 but i dont know what way to do it, i dont have the recovery disc. could you please help. thanking you.. brian o' connell

This procedure will work usually unless there has been an alterations to the originally installed OS on the Acer. On recent Acer computers they have a hidden volume on the disk labeled PQService.
This volume is for restoring the computer to the factory settings in same condition as purchased new. It will erase everything currently on the main hard drive.

Step 1: Backup everything that is important to you, on a disk or separate hard drive.
This includes any documents, pictures and application installers.

Step 2: Reboot the system and press ALT-F10 during the POST to start the Acer eRecovery Management and reinstall the operating system.

Step 3: Select Restore system to factory default.

Step 4: The wizard will lead you through formatting the designated drive and installing the operating system from the computer hard drive to the designated drive.

I dont know wat to put in volume label cause i cannot formta it!

you do not require to put anything in the volume label infact there must be a check box under the volume lable box uncheck it and try.
if the problem persists simply put any label keeping in mind it dose not match your existing drive label.
thank you.

Wanting to use as slave hard drive

hi ronrayhall,

I installed a maxtor hard drive, and they are shipped with a default of cable select. If you have this hard drive you dont need to change the jumpers. You do need to make sure however your original hard drive is also on cable select.

If you dont have a maxtor, alot of manuf. print the jumper settings on the hard drive, if not you might have to find the install instructions on the web for that drive. There is a good listing of Jumper settings at this website if its easier for you than searching the web. http://drivejumper.com/

Installation off New hard drive

First tell me where you are going to install this hard disk whether to be primary or secondary disk and what is your pc configuration.

Old bios does not support large volume hard disk so you have to make it partitioned with the help of a new pc and then try to install the xp or use some third party utility to format and partition the hard disk (use or download part.exe) then make a bootable cd or floppy with Windows98 or XP then run this utility

New hard drive(s) in Dell4500s

You would have to contact dell for the OS disk.

I dont think you can install the hard disk in place of floppy drive. An external Hard disk would be a better option.

HDD2188 cannot display its volume

Hi, You might need to format them. Right click on MY COMPUTER, select MANAGE. Go to DISK MANAGEMENT, then to the right pane of the window, go to the usb drive and format each partition. This is only if your hard drive is new and has no data. If it has data, then it's a different problem and solution altogether. Thanks, Lolita
