the 2230 is a fine unit! There could be several things causing this problem, more than likely it could be dirty front controls which will require cleaning. It could be more serious problems such as pre-amp or main amp failures, dried up output coupling cap for the right channel. I would recommend having the unit serviced. These older vintage Marantz units are really special and deserve proper attention.
To clean externals: just as makers always recommend - soft, very slighlty damp lint-free cloth not of artificial fibre. After using this polish surfaces again with a completely dry, soft cloth. On any awkward spots use soft breath close-up. To clean CD deck use a lens cleaner CD kit.

Carefully clean your binoculars
by firstly removing any dirt or dust from the main
body and straps using a soft microfibre cloth.
Avoid the lenses at this point using any form of
cloth on the lenses before removing all dirt and
dust particles first could destroy
Gently remove all traces of grit,
dirt or dust particles from the lenses using a soft
lens brush or canned air specifically designed for
Waterproof binoculars can be
rinsed gently under a tap but be sure to use on
lightly running water, avoid high pressure water as
it could damage your
Gently remove any remaining marks
using lens cleaning tools such as a lens pen or
lens cleaning fluid and lens tissue. Do not be
tempted to use kitchen towel or anything else lying
around that is slightly rough and may scratch the
surface of the lens, only use a lens pen, lens
tissue or a lens cloth. Gently wipe the lens using
a circular motion working from the centre of the
lens to the outer edge. NEVER apply lens cleaning
fluid directly onto the glass (always apply to the
cloth) and always ensure that the lens cleaning
fluid you are using is recommended for the type of
lens coatings that have been applied to your
binoculars (Do not use general
household glass cleaning products or products

clean the game disc. Nintendo recommends using a clean, lint-free cloth and water to clean game discs. Use short strokes and gently wipe from the center of the disc out to the edge. Do not use circular strokes, and do not use any cleaning solvents.
Nintendo also makes a lens cleaner tool. The lens cleaner is inserted into the console drive and cleans the disc reader lens. It is available through Nintendo's website.
Keep the console clean and dust free. Use a duster or a vacuum to keep dust out of the vents, and clean the exterior of the Wii console with a clean cloth dampened with window cleaner. Make sure that the Wii console is ventilated properly and that the vents are not obstructed.
The problem could be dirt on the surface of the lens, you can clean this by removing the cover of the dvd player .
Gently use a dry cotton bud to clean the lens because the lens is fragile.
Insert the disc plate into the dvd player and press play, if it does not play try the second method.
Ensure the cover of the player is open, connect the power plug to the mains socket and observe the lens if it beam a red light, Also check the ribbon cable use to connect the lens to the printed circuit board, then gently clean the lens with a dry cotton bud , insert the disc plate and press play to see if it play.
If it does not play the disc, then this require a change of the lens

This laser is super sensitive. Do not touch it with your finger or anything that could potentially damage it or leave a mark.
1) Canned Air. Get a can with a mini straw and blow it out pretty good. If it's giving you problems, blow out the ventilation ports as well.
2) Disc Cleaner. Best buy makes a disc cleaner that looks like a DVD. This is not the best way to go but it might work. Ask an employee what they recommend using.
3) Q-tip. If you have already opened it; or are past warranty and desperate to get it cleaned, open up the console and with a Q-tip dipped in a very small amount of rubbing alcohol (make sure it's not wet, just damp) SUPER LIGHTLY give the laser one good rub.
Please make sure you're giving it a good means of ventilation and ensure to never put it on carpet.
Disc read errors are mainly due to weak or dirty lens you should try cleaning lens first. When your PS2 lens is covered by dust it wont allow laser to read disc so its better to clean your PS2 lens first,if problem still exists then your PS2 lens is weak and you will have to take it to Sony repairer for service.I recommend all of PS2 owners to keep their PS2 at dust free environment.
