SOURCE: Bernina Virtuosa 150 and uneven layers or bulk.

Hi I have a 15 year old Frister Rossmann serger which I got second hand 10 years ago. It has had one break down which was my fault for not getting it serviced for 8 years. Not sure where in world you are. They sell as Frister Rossmann in UK and Europe and Kenmore in the US. I've used it mainly for dressmaking and soft furnishing projects. One more thought on the Bernina have you tried leaving a query / searching on the US Bernina website www.berninausa.com I use them alot. Try and stick with getting the Bernina sorted, I love mine! SOURCE: How is presser foot adjusted ?

If your stitches are tiny more than likely the feeddogs are not working correctly. More often than not its because the pivot points for the feeddog mechanism inside are gummed up,dirty and oily and they need to be cleaned. Your machine is in need of service. Does not really have anything to do with presser foot pressure especially if you have tried adjusting that to no availe.
It needs servicing.

SOURCE: Bernina Virtuosa 153 QE Won't turn on

If you've got bad luck like I do, you probably blew out the circuit board! It took my Bernina dealer 4 months to get another from Sweden; thank goodness they gave me a loaner.
Unfortunately, it happened again right after I picked it up from the dealer, and they have to find another circuit board for it! It's not a problem with my electrical wiring because the loaner ran just fine.
It's very, very frustrating because I'm a small business and need my machine running!

SOURCE: How do I service/oil my virtuosa 153

You can only oil the moving parts that you can see unless you want to take the machine apart which I do not recommend.

Why is it that as soon as I plug in the foot pedal the machine starts?

The foot control is a simple device with a resistance value that, as the foot control is depressed, the value diminishes and the machine runs faster. The cause of an immediate run condition will be the result of the following:
1. The cable or plug has been damaged so as to connect both wires to create a maximum run state. 2. Most common to the foot control itself is that the actuator for the slide resistor is broken and stuck in the max run spot as well as having been disconnected from the on/off micro switch. 3. The foot control has been taken apart and improperly assembled. SewTechnical Home

I have a Bernina Virtuosa 153 sewing machine that is skipping stitches while trying to shorten a pair of jeans. I changed the needle to a 100/16 and am using all purpose thread.

You may need to increase the foot pressure to cope with the heavy denim material. Look carefully at the material as the machine tries to stitch ... if the foot is not keeping the material firmly on the stitch plate, it might be riding up on the needle (denim tends to be rather 'grippy') which will prevent the thread loop being formed correctly below the stitch-plate and therefore not getting picked-up by the CB hook. Changing to a bigger diameter needle might actually make the situation worse in this case ... go back to an 80 and try again.
