Question about Sewing Machines
Just purchased used from friend who bought it new she only used for embroidering with no problems. I am doing regular sewing and cant get the tension adjusted. the fabric just puckers up. I have adjust top and bottom threads. no help. Also the needle is hitting the foot and the plate. When i insert needle it goes in straight but when i begin to tighten the screw the bottom of needle moves crooked to the left. Yes, I am insertng it in correctly. Could this be issue with the tension also? Any help would be appreciated.
Is it the right needle for the fabric being sewed?
you said you put in a new needle and as you tighen the screw
the needle moves to the left,, it's a possibility that the needle holder or
needle bar need to be checked because the needle should stay straight
and not move to the left unless your changing the needle position.
could the top thread be caught somewhere, like the spindle the spool
set on, I've had that happen, if possible take a can of air and blow the
tension disks just incase there is any lint in them.

Have you got the stitch width selector on zero ? If not, it may be wanting to sew a small zig zag........if that is OK, ....
Make up some samples of the problems, call the dealer and arrange to take it back to show them the results and either have it adjusted, or show you what needs to be set where to achieve the results you need...........it is under warantee, and you should expect it to function correctly.
I would not advise you fiddle with anything other than tensions and stitch selector on such a new machine.
Ask if you can have a 15min familiarisation lesson on the machine........we actually offer 3 x 30min free lessons on the use of a new machine so our customers can get the maximum benefit from their purchase.
It has proven to be a good business decision, as we get fewer frustrated phone calls and folks actually go and use the machines properly from day one.

SOURCE: i have an 1130 bernina
The 1130 does not have a consumer adjustable presser foot. Check to be sure you are using the correct presser foot .Some feet are slightly different in height which is how the pressure is regulated. If this is not your problem it will need to be seen by a technician.

looped stitches are usually caused by improper tension. when the loop is on the upper side, it may be corrected by loosening the top tension or by tightening the lower tension (turn the tension screws on the bobbin a hair at a time)
since using the machine only a few times it is best to clean the machine from dust (can use a can of air) blow air into the bobbin area and between the tension disks and under the throat plate.
make sure the machine is threaded correctly and bobbin is evenly threaded

With the embroidering, some of the bobbin thread is SUPPOSED to show on the top of your embroidery-the machine isn't doing anything incorrectly. You'll need to thread your bobbin with the same thread as you are using with the top. I had the same "problem" when I first got the machine and took it to a wonderful local technician whose helped me with a lot of things who informed me that this is perfectly normal on embroidery machines.
