I want to install a new motherboard what should i buy

Your motherboard is the main component to your computer, so if you're thinking of re-using your RAM and CPU, you'll have to make sure you get a motherboard with the same RAM type (ex. if you have DDR2 RAM, you'll have to get a DDR2 motherboard) and the same CPU socket. My recommendation is that you find a motherboard that fits inside your tower, and buy a processor and RAM that is compatible with your new motherboard. If your hard drives are SATA connections, you should be able to reuse those on a new motherboard, but if they are IDE (big, flat wire) then you'll need to made sure the new board can accommodate your IDE hard drives. CD ROMs are also mainly SATA now, so if you have an IDE CD rom drive and IDE hard drives, it will be difficult to find a NEW motherboard with more than one IDE connection, meaning you'll have to change jumper settings, or simply buy a SATA CD-rom drive.
As far as software goes, you'll most likely have to reinstall your operating system if the upgrade is a substantial one. Video card is another thing to consider. Your motherboard might be using the older AGP technology, whereas new motherboards are useing PCIe connections. So to sum it up, when you upgrade your motherboard, it affects a lot of other hardware, but if you simply swap your motherboard with something compatible with the rest of your hardware, it isn't really an upgrade.

After installing Ubuntu I logged out. Now is asks for a user name and passwork but I did't set any. I asked for it to automaticaly log on. How dos I fix it?

In Ubuntu 9.04 click on the main icon and select Restart.

- If Ubuntu is the only operating system on your computer you'll need to tap the ESC key as the system boots.

- If you have a
dual boot or multiple-boot system the menu should appear on its own.

- At the root level you'll get a boot menu. Select the one that says "recovery mode" and press Enter.

- Ubuntu continues to load until you reach the Recovery Menu.

- Arrow down to "

netroot

" which states Drop to root shell prompt with networking and press Enter.

- Now, at the root type "

password username

" (where username is the account whose password you want to change) and press Enter.

- You'll be prompted to

enter a new password

.

- You will not see the password or any evidence that you are typing.

- Retype the password. If both passwords match you'll have successfully reset your password.

- Press Enter to continue booting into Ubuntu.

hope it helps

How do I install wifi on my old Gateway 300S desktop? It doesn't seem to

You have 2 options... 1. Purchase a USB WiFi adapter that's compatible with your current OS, which I'll assume to be Windows XP 2. Purchase a PCI WiFi card card that's compatible with your current OS, which I'll still assume to be Windows XP... PCI is better, but you'll have to physically open up your computer to install it. Either case you'll have to install software drivers for your chosen device.

Unlock CURRENT password on acer 250 netbook on ubuntu

Try these steps it worked for me it can work for you:

1. You’ll need to boot from your Ubuntu Live CD, choosing “Try Ubuntu without any change to your computer” from the boot menu.
2. Once the system boots, open up a new Terminal window from Applications \ Accessories and then type in the following command:

sudo fdisk -l (minus small leter L)

3. Now you’ll need to create a directory to mount the hard drive on. Since we’re actually booting off the live cd, the directory doesn’t really get created anywhere. then type

sudo mkdir /media/sda1

4.The next command will mount the hard drive in the /media/sda1 folder.

sudo mount /dev/sda1 /media/sda1

5. The command that actually does the trick is: chroot.
it is used to open up a shell with a different root directory than the current shell is using, and we’ll pass in the folder where we mounted the hard drive.

sudo chroot /media/sda1

6. Now you can be able to use the passwd command to change your user account’s password, and it will be applied to the hard drive since we are using chroot.

7. passwd 12345

Note: you’ll need to type your username after the passwd command in order to change the right password.

8. Now you should be able to reboot your system and log yourself in with your new password.

Remove infection in my computor which was downloaded or recieved

Hey welcome to fixya. i hope u 'll be fine.
To remove the infections from your PC u have to install an anti virus. The best anti virus i recommend is AVG 9. The latest version of AVG is 9. so u have to search it and install on ur PC. its free of cost just u have to download it and its easily availible on different sites. After downloading install it on your PC. when it 'll be installed open it there is option of residential shield in it. if it is not active, active it after it click on scan computer, it 'll take some time and 'll scan your whole PC. in the end of scanning click on remove all the infections and 'll remove all the infections and viruses of your PC.
i hope this solution 'll helpful 4 u. Always hope 4 the best :))
