SOURCE: Fix it or Buy a new one
this machine requires a table with a large clutch motor attached under it, usually a 1/2 hp 1800 or 3600 rpm.with a drive belt connecting the machine to the motor. The oil pan sits inside the opening on the bed of the table. To do it completely right you will need a knee lift to control the presser foot and a 6 volt light which plugs into the motor. Oh,yes, you will need the oil pan because the machine is high speed self lubricating (oil pump driven) DRESS MAKING machine. You can use it for upholstery but it will be a constant battle because the largest size needle you can use is size 18 and this is normally not large enough for heavy upholstery thread. It can be done but it is a fight. These parts can be ordered for $200-300. You will have a problem trying to get the oil pan because it is considered an obsolete machine.
If you just want to use it for a hobby or learning machine, forget about the oil pan and sew slowly so it doesn't get a lot of wear. Manually lube it occasionally..
PS See if the seller will take it back.(If you were told it was a complete machine you have a real complaint). This one doesn't even have a reverse. If he will, buy a different machine.Be aware, industrial machines are made for specific operations and they don't interchange very well.
