Question about Lexmark X73 All-In-One InkJet Printer
Sometimes the ink cartridges can get blocked with dry ink especially if it's been a while since it was used. I used to have a canon printer and i refilled my own carts many times. If I left them out of the printer without plastic wrap on them for a while they wouldn't work. If you take your cartridges out and blot the inkjets underneath with a damp paper towel it might help. Don't let the colour inks mix though so just wipe them in one direction so the colours don't cross. Blot with dry paper after this till the bottom of the cartridge is dry and try it in your printer. If my carts were really bad I would fold a paper towel several times and wet it, then sit it on a small flat plate such as a saucer, and just sit the cartridge on the towel so all the jets on the bottom touched it. Leave it sit there for a couple of minutes and the ink will blot out onto the paper. If you get no ink on the paper you know you need a refill or a new one. Can also leave it sitting longer if no ink to see if it gets better. Take the cart off the wet paper and just blot it several times onto a folded dry piece of paper towel to dry it, but don't wipe it sideways or the colours will mix if it's a multicolour cart.. Also, please make sure you NEVER EVER touch the gold contact plate on the side of the cartridge with your fingers as it might not work any more if you do that. You can clean ink off the gold contact the same way with a damp paper towel, but if you have got some fingerprints on there an alchohol swab might be better to get the grease from your fingers off the contacts.

Use the printer's utility program to self-clean the printer.
This process may need to be repeated as many as 5 to 10 times. Often this will
resolve the problem.
Turn the printer off, preferably overnight, if the self-cleaning
utility has not worked. The ink may need to soften before the self-cleaning
utility will be successful. Turn the printer on and try the self-cleaning
utility again several times.
from the owner's manual where the print head is located. Epson printers, for
example, are usually in the printer. Many other brands place the print head in
the cartridge. For models where the print head is in the printer, drop seven to
10 drops of isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) down the ink receptacle area.
This is the hole where the ink flows into the head from the cartridge. Run a
few self-cleaning utilities. If necessary, allow to sit a few hours or
overnight and repeat the self-cleaning utility.
cartridge print head in hot water if the print head is in the cartridge. Allow
to soak overnight. Dry the print head area with a paper towel. Repeat the
cartridge print head in isopropyl alcohol if the hot water soak did not unclog
the print head. Leave the print head covered in alcohol overnight. Use a damp
paper towel to wipe off the print head area. Dry carefully. Try the
self-cleaning utility again.
a new cartridge if the alcohol soak did not unclog the print head in the
cartridge. This will provide new print heads that won't be clogged. Contact a
service technician for repair of print heads in the printer if the alcohol did
not unclog the print head.
