1 Answer

Same problem what i am trying to do is basically turm off the security features because it really belongs to a friend and i was toying around with it and then this problem occurred. just to reinterate, the internet works but not the wireless, has security light on it and we cannot get it to go off no matter what. iwant this light to go away so that others can link onto the internet using wireless. the owners can figure out how to lock it later, how, depends on them but i did this and they want it fixed

I would to make it secure

you will have to have the installation disk that comes with it, after you put that in an autorun feature will appear were you can launch the program. This will allow you to reboot your router and more importantly add encryption. I recommend not using WEP as it has security flaws, instead use WPA or WPA2

How do I forward a port on my 2wire970 router.

The sad answer is that you really can't forward a port on 2wire equipment. Since the hardware is provided by the ISP they only give you basic settings (security keys, firewall etc). There are advance features you can hack into ( but I wouldn't recommend it. If you do the advanced settings and mess anything up they may charge you for the router or cancel your service. The easiest solution is to get a personal router that supports port forwarding and just connect it to the 2wire router you already have or just replace it with the ISP (if it's a wireless router) for a normal box.

The wifi on my nintendo ds lite doesn't work even though i changed the settings to WEP ..i dont know if the wep key i type in on my DS is wrong because when i type in the wep key shown on the netgear...

Welcome to Fixya

First you need to check is if the WEP key that you are entering is the WEP key of your router. Try to connect a laptop to your computer which do not belong to the network. Say, your friends laptop. This laptop will ask for a security key if it's the first time to connect to the network. Enter your security key and see if the laptop can connect to the network. If it did not connect then the problem is your WEP key.

Have a good one!

Hi, I can help you my friend. But 'm not sure you can get it. However please make sure you are not putting yourself into trouble.

Difference is, you can notice that "s" added to "http" . Which makes the browser believe that it is a secured website.

Please vote me if you think that this might have helped you :) Thank you take care of yourself. Please feel free to ask me for more help.

Is this modem a secure link or do i need a download program in order to have a sucure connection

This router is obsolete, but you can read about it here...

While it has some basic firewall features, it is not up to current wireless standards and may not provide the level of security you may be looking for.

As to software versus hardware... They both have a specific role to play in providing the best security for your PC. Hardware can stop inbound attacks, software handles potentially undesirable outbound traffic better. look at AVG Internet Security as a good software solution.

Trying 2 open all ports

Don't try! The whole point of "security" is to _ONLY_ open those ports that your system needs.

If you really think that you must do it, read about the 'DMZ' ("De- Militarized Zone") feature of your router.

Hacking into D-link

hey,, log into the router (check you router manual for instructions on how to do this) normally it involves going to internet explorer, typing the router ip. logginmg into the router with the username and password.

now find and enable these security features.

1.) under wireless look for WPA-PSK this is like a password to connect to the network. follow the user manual for instructions on doing this or the help located on the router config screen. basically it involves turning it on, typing a password, confirmning it and rebooting the router.

2.) MAC address filters. locates under advanced and filters. enable it, select the mac address u want to axcess the router and only enable them.

thats it your done.. the WPA=PSK is enough to secure it, but i use both to prevent wardrivers and other lamers.
