Question about Dishwashers
You will need to provide the model number of the dishwasher. However, the likely causes of the lights flashing are many, including water inlet failure, blocked drain filter, leaking seals causing flood switch to trip. You may want to go to the Hotpoint site and find the manual for your model.

I have had this problem twice now and the problem is water in the drip tray. The guys at Hotpoint eventually told me what the light meant as he wanted me to have an engineer and the manual does not say.!!
So if your up to it uplug from the mains and turn water off to the unit, pull the dishwasher out and lay it on its side (first putting down towels as the water will spill out depending where it was in the cycle when it stopped).
At the bottom of the dishwasher along both long sides there are 6 screws ( 3 each side) remove these easy peezy. Gently remove the tray/plate as it has connections there. You will probably notice the water on the tray or in the gubbins (nice word). Get a dry towel and dry what you can not forgetting the tray itself. Then and this is the important bit, use a hairdryer on all the gubbins and the metal insides DONT FORGET TO DO THE TRAY ITSELF. Take at least 20 mins to do this getting everything completly dry.
Then put together again, stand it up gently and try it.
You may or may not notice the water in the drip tray or on the gubbins, it does not take much for it to stop working.
This has worked twice for me. Also with the help of the internet and costing me £5 I was able to remove broken glass from the drain pump. I have saved myself a fortune.
This is from a woman who knows NOTHING about this sort of thing so if I can fix it anyone can.
Power to the girls !!!!

hi, just found this forum after searching the web 4 a solution to my hotpoint DWF50 problem.
I came down this morning to a machine which base tray was full of water and lights 3 ECO & 4 Fast flashing.
Anyway my solution was as i had seen a hotpoint engineer do once before was to press the start/reset button trip the catch, to fool the machine into thinking the door is closed then put in a program, press start, the machine hums slightly but doesnt do anything then after removing the large filter from the tray at the bottom underneath the lower basket insert a length of wire, with a loop on the end (Tip i used a wire coat hanger from the dry cleaners) poke in ythe hole that the dirty water drains from, after a bit of poking about the pump started working and the water drained away. Tip place a hook at the other end of your wire impliment to put your finger in to stop the wire getting caught in the pump mechanisim. After wards u have to hook back the door catch to the normal position, Tip another piece of the coat hanger with a right angled piece at the end will do this. This worked for me, saved me some money esp as D & G insurance ran out 2 weeks ago.....stu

Is the water coming into the dishwasher and is the wash motor working or is the sump clogged up so the water cannot get thru.Depending on the purchase date of the dishwasher, if it is a under a year old call who ever you bought it from as it usually comes with a 1 year manufactures warranty.

These two lights indicate a fault in the heating circuit.
You would require to have access to and be able to use a multimeter to test the heater if the machine isn't actually heating the water.
If it is heating the water then obviously we know the fault isn't with the heater.
Check the heater first.
Take the door apart and check the wiring in the door isn't broken.
If everything checks ok, take the pcb out, look for burned or dry joints around the relays.
