ITunes+used 2nd gen ipod shuffle not working.

My friend gave me his 2nd gen iPod Shuffle. I am trying to get it towork on my computer. I have iTunes already, I use an external harddrive to store my music on, because I have so much theres not enoughroom on my comps hard drive. I need to install the newest iTunes8.0....I have opened iTunes and NONE of my music will play (ext. harddrive IS plugged in). iTunes ''can't find'' some songs and others it willjust simply not play. so I have unplugged my ext drive, I was in theprocess of installing iTunes 8 but every time I do a window pops upthat says ''Invalid Drive: F:/''.

Nope. iTunes runs of my comp. but the music files are stored on my ext hard drive, cause I have so much music. and only 30GB of hard drive space on my comp by itself.

Ipod is not recognized by itunes. it wont play or charge it just blinks 4 times when i plug it in

  1. The iPod reset utility will reset your iPod shuffle back to it's factory settings. It works for the following shuffles: iPod shuffle (1st Generation) - iPod Software version 1.1.5, iPod shuffle (2nd Generation) - iPod Software version 1.0.3
The reset utility will fix the following issues.
    1. The iPod won't play music and can't be restored using iTunes
    2. iTunes won't see the iPod but you can see it under "My Computer" in windows or under Apple System Profiler on a Mac.
    3. iPod shuffle (1st Generation) is identified as a device in "Recovery mode." iPod shuffle (2nd Generation) is identified as a "USB DFU device."
  2. You have to have administrator privileges to run the restore software and it will wipe out all the information on the iPod (including all your music) and install factory software back onto it.
System requirements are Mac OS X 10.3.9, or later, Win2k with sp4, Win XP, this won't work on Vista.
Download the file for the program here:
    MAC
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ipodresetutility102formac.html
    Windows
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ipodresetutility102forwindows.html
  3. Install the software onto your computer, plug your iPod into the USB port and run the reset program, it will ask for your permission to reset the iPod, answer yes and the process will proceed. After finishing the reset procedure then use iTunes or whatever software is used to access your iPod and load your music. Enjoy your toy!

Ipod Shuffle is not working! Please help!

I had the same problem with a new 2nd gen shuffle connecting it to my PowerMac G5 (OSX 10.4.11) with the latest iTunes (8.0.1). The problem is in the connector. The shuffle using the same connector for listening, syncing with iTunes, and charging. It appears to be insufficient for the G5 to interface with it because when I swapped it for a new Nano, the Nano worked just fine. I tried 2 new 2nd gen shuffles (and hours with in-store so-called genius's as well as tech supp in CA and noone could come up with a resolution). So I figured it had to be in the cable interface (the Nano using a multi-pin connection like the old ipod's used to) and that was exactly the problem. I spoke to someone who said they had a G4 and the shuffle worked fine with that, so it must just be a G5 issue.

Hope this helps....
