If it's popping through the intake, you are dealing with a timing issue. I have been "twisting wrenches" for over 25 years and even though I don't know how I do it but once in a while I end up crossing spark plugs wires. Below is a picture of the correct firing order. If this is the same as you have done and since the vehicle is older it is possible that the distributer has been taken out in the past and it's possible that whoever did the work put the number 1 spot in a different position but I'm just kind of guessing.

Firing order for 87 s10 Blazer 2.8 Spectra distributor

The firing order is driver side is 1,3,5 / passenger side firing order is 2,4,6 on the distributor cap after you have installed the rotor and the new cap the order is like a clock 1 goes at the bottom to the left if your in front of the engine it goes 1,2,3,4,5,6 and the lone wire goes in the middle just make sure you follow your wires to the right plug to make sure the firing order is correct or it won't fire.

Firing order 1987 s10 v4

FIRING ORDERS NOTE: To avoid confusion, remove and tag the spark plug wires one at a time, for replacement. If a distributor is not keyed for installation with only one orientation, it could have been removed previously and rewired. The resultant wiring would hold the correct firing order, but could change the relative placement of the plug towers in relation to the engine. For this reason it is imperative that you label all wires before disconnecting any of them. Also, before removal, compare the current wiring with the accompanying illustrations. If the current wiring does not match, make notes in your book to reflect how your engine is wired. Fig. 1: 1.9L engine Firing order: 1–3–4–2 Distributor rotation: counterclockwise 88442g01.gif
Fig. 2: 2.0L engine Firing order: 1–3–4–2 Distributor rotation: clockwise 88442g02.gif
