Where is the thermal protector sensor on hoover vac.

On most vacuum cleaner models it is built into the motor and cannot be changed without replacing the motor. In my experience the reset switch goes bad more often than the motor does which is why I recommend vacuum cleaners that have an external reset switch.

Bearing screeching?

Hello,
Yes, it could be a motor bearing. Another possibility is the fan could be broken. Remove the bottom plate from vacuum. Spin the belt motor pulley slowly and view the fan. You may have a plastic fan that has broken or something is keeping the fan from spinning. Here are links with illustrations to an online guide. (the links will say "belts" but it will show how to get to the fan). Click the one that best matches your vacuum.
Hope this helps.

you are correct, the motor is shot. if you like the machine replace the motor. i would get an est. on the machine from your local vac shop and the go price them. in some cases its better just to get another machine.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. It is possible that you may have a broken or cracked motor mount and the motor has shifted and that could be the reason that the belt is not running straight and aligned properly – if you have the vacuum less than one year – something like this would be covered under the Hoover factory warranty and to contact an authorized Hoover vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or to call the Hoover factory cust serv @ the phone # listed below. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

Hoover Elite Rewind Vacuum, smells like a burning motor and is not sucking anymore! Help!!

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. If the motor has a burning smell, it could be the belt but in most cases it would be the motor and that would be in need of replacement. You can try to replace it yourself but there would not a warranty for self installation. If you have an authorized vacuum cleaner dealer do the install then it would be warranted for one year. You can check with the Hoover manufacturer if you like. If you have further questions please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area, or contact the Hoover website and or the cust serv phone # @ Hoover listed below. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

Hoover Recalls Self-Propelled Vacuum Cleaners
---
Consumer Complaints
Hoover Company Inc. has agreed to pay a $750,000 civil penalty to settle allegations that it failed to report to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) the sale of vacuum cleaners with defective on-off switches that can overheat and cause the vacuum cleaner to catch fire.
In April 2005, Hoover conducted a recall of 636,000 Hoover Self-Propelled Upright Vacuum Cleaners because of defective on-off switches.
In June 2004, after CPSC received notice of several vacuum cleaner incidents, the Commission staff requested Hoover provide a full report of incident information. In July 2004, when Hoover submitted a full report, it had notice of 260 consumer incidents, of which 141 involved reports of fire. Additionally, there was one report of a minor burn injury.
Hoover first learned of a vacuum cleaner switch on one of these units overheating and melting in April 1999.
Federal law requires firms to report to CPSC immediately (within 24 hours) after obtaining information reasonably supporting the conclusion that a product contains a defect which could create a substantial risk of injury to the public, presents an unreasonable risk of serious injury or death, or violates a federal safety standard.
These Hoover Self-Propelled Upright Vacuum Cleaners are plastic, upright vacuums with the brand name Hoover and words "Self Propelled" printed on the front of the product.
Only those Hoover Self-Propelled Upright Vacuum Cleaners manufactured between May 1998 and November 1999 are included in the recall that is the subject of this penalty.
