SOURCE: Freezer left open and now won't work

Try to unplug the unit from the wall and let it sit for a few minutes then plug back in. May reset the door alarm lock out. Also, moisture in the air can be drawn in and freeze up the whole thing. That means turning it off with doors open for about 36 hours... Moisture is a killer in a freezer, freezes and blocks up every air circulation vent, etc.

SOURCE: Ice Maker stopped working

You need to defrost the freezer. By the door being ajar, there was excessive ice build up on the coil that was not removed during a system defrost resulting in a blocked coil. This caused the temperature to rise in the freezer above twelve degrees that is why the ice maker stopped.

Amana bottom freezer unit warms, then resets after being left unplugged

If the door does not shut correctly, humidity enters the unit and condenses inside. The defrost function is not designed to work properly under such a condition.

Ice (frost) builds up around the cooling coils, and actually insulates them, so you don't get good cooling. When you unplug the unit, the frost melts, runs into the bottom tray beneath the unit (can't see it).

When you turn it back on it cools like it should until the frost builds up again. You need a good gasket and a door that is adjusted properly. You also need the unit level at least side to side, but front to back also is preferable.

The unit has front leveling feet, and the back usually adjusts itself with self-leveling feet. The adjustments for the door are metal bars inside it, behind the inside storage panel.

The hinges are also adjustable. Sometimes the door sags from heavy things stored inside it. You must loosen the hinges a bit, lift the door and hold it while you tighten the hinges.

Sometimes the unit can be unsalvagable, because it's been situated incorrectly for so long that it's permanently bent out of square.

OR, the defroster clock might be bad.

We left for the weekend and our freezer door was left ajar. Upon returning, we reset the temp., but the freezer never got below 17 and then it shut off again. Is it a complete loss?

It is possible that an excessive amount of moisture was introduced into the freezer compartment while the door was ajar. If there is excess frosting on the walls or around the door seal, defrost the unit and see if it cools better.

Frost every thing

I assume you mean frost in the freezer only, not in the refrigerator compartment.
There are a lot of mechanical problems that might cause frost to build up. The unit has a defrost timer to defrost the freezer and it might be broken.however, more likely, the freezer door was left ajar letting a small amount of outside air in, which condensed and froze.
Check to see that freezer door is fully closing and is not being block in any way. Recheck after 6-8 hours and see if frost is gone. If it is still there, repost your question along with make and model of your unit. J

Amana French Door fridge not cooling

you have a problem here
you need to get the secondary defrost kit installed
it is not the jazz board
unless he is not programming it right aftwer install
but check your back wall for frost
if you have frost you have an airflow issue
whats happening is the door is being left ajar even a 1/16 gap is an issue
when hot air enters the unit fromn the gap it condenses on the diverter behind the freezer wall
after a few weeks it builds up enought o cause problems
there is a kit you can get that will divert electrical heat to the diverter and keep it warm enough to defrost it there by never having the issue again

Self defrosting deep freeze not defrosting

The excess frost in those areas is probably caused by leaky door gasket seals. They should be tight enough to hold a dollar bill securely all the way around. A defrost problem would start on the coils behind the back cover inside the freezer and would also appear on the back wall before it did on the door edges.

Freezer only freezing to 20 degrez

If the door was left ajar for any extended period frost has built up on the cooling coils. A complete defrost of the freezer should take care of the problem. Normally a frost free system will clear the ice from the cooling coil when the defrost time cycle happens. However frost may have built up in areas where the heaters can not readily remove it in a normal defrost cycle and shutting the unit down with the door open for about 24 hours should clear it out.

Motor runs, some ice at top level, but temp is at 50-60 degrees.

Defrost the freezer. Door being ajar allows moisture to build on the freezer coil and stops air circulation. In frost free units this condition should clear itself after about 8-12 hours max. Locating and advancing the timer by rotating the clutch head screw clockwise slowly until you hear one click. This will start the automatic defrost manually.
