Question about Vivitar 58mm 2.2x Professional Telephoto Lens -hd4 Optics Viv-58t

Open Question

I have a Vivitar VIV58T. Problem, When using it on a Canon 55-250 IS lens, the picture is very distorted on the sides and milky and out of focus in the middle. Do I need an adapter to fix this?

I have a Canon T3i and when I use the zoom, it starts to distort about half way out.

I don't know if this will clarify it any more or not. When I have this Vivitar VIV58T multiplier on the end of my telephoto lens, it starts out clear with my telephoto set at 55mm. When I start to zoom the lens out, the image starts to distort and becomes almost milky in appearance by the time my telephoto lens reaches the 250mm point. It's like looking through relatively dense fog and the image won't focus. I've attached a photo so you can see what I'm refering to.

SOURCE: vivitar 75-300mm lens

The Vivitar brand has been bought and sold quite a few times in the past 10 years.

KEH Camera has quite a few used Vivitar lenses listed on their website. They are priced very low, from just $4 to $49, so it's highly unlikely that the lens is worth repairing.

SOURCE: I can't get the macro adapter to work ?

Put the macro adapter on the camera and move the camera in and out from an object to try to focus the object in the display. Remember, macro is very small, very close and very small field-of-focus. I hope this helps.

Yes and yes. Bear in mind that not all features may work. You probably won't get autofocus or metering with the Nikon D90, for example.

SOURCE: lens adapter

No. Unless the lens has a generic T-mount with a Minolta adapter. In that case you can replace the T-mount with a Pentax adapter.

The first thing you should do is test another lens on your camera. If the other lens doesn't focus then there is a problem with your camera body. "If the other lens DOES focus, then it's a problem with your lens. In both cases your camera or lens will need to be repaired

Vivitar 35-200 macro FD mount lens for Canon doesn't extend to telephoto. It seems to be stuck at 35mm. Any tips? Disassemble, special buttons, tricks?

Did you try putting the camera and lens in Manual Mode and focusing by hand? On Many cameras there is a tiny switch on the lens that limits your focus ability to either FULL or LIMIT.

I have been given a vivitar 70-210 series 1 lens 1:3.5 with a Canon AE1 would the lens work with a DSLR Nikon D3100 - would I need to buy an adaptor ?

No, and no.

The lens will not work on a Nikon camera.

Nikon cameras are deeper than Canon cameras. Even if a Canon lens fit onto a Nikon body, it would not focus at infinity. In order to enable a Canon lens to focus at infinity on a Nikon body, a lens adapter would have to have a negative thickness.

Can my viviter 70-210 f/4 fd mount be mounted on canon eos d500 without adapter?

Unfortunately it cannot.
However there are some amazing adapters out there. They start about $10.00 on eBay and go up from there. There is on that sells for about $55 that will connect the Vivitar to the Auto focus confirmation signal in the camera, so that when the lens is focused manually, you hear the camera's signal to confirm focus.
Hope this helps.

If the Vivitar has an FD mount for older Canons, then no, you'll need an adapter ring to convert the lens. They are available on sites like ebay

Sometimes when i'm taking picture my flash wont stop blinking for a few seconds.

The 400D uses flash assisted focusing. In low light conditions the auto focus cannot get a focus lock so it pops the flash a few times so the lens has a chance to focus. You will notice this will go away when in the manual focus mode (the switch on the side of the lens).

The only way around this problem (as people in a photo think the photo has already been taken and looks away when the camera actually takes the picture) is to use a hotshoe mounted TTL Canon Speedlight (430ex or 580ex) which use an infra-red focussing beam.

Focusing to infinity

Hey redbarnz,
If the lens won't focus to infinity then there is probably something physically wrong with the lens. With the dominance of digital equipment you can find fantastic deals on manual focus 35 mm lenses. I would look at Canon manual focus lenses rather than sticking with vivitar. I hope this helps!
