Question about Dell Inspiron 9300 Notebook

Inspiron 9300 Notebook start up problem.

My 9300 will very slowly go through the start up process and finally gets to the Windows (XP) welcome. Then it goes to the main menu with my background, but never brings up any of my shortcuts. It has done this one other time and then finally started working. is there anything someone could suggest to fix this problem?

It sounds to me like you have viruses or are loaded with spyware. My suggestion is F8 when your laptop starts, after bios load screen and before Windows load screen, and do a system restore. That is the extreme solution. Less extreme is download a spyware program and run online virus scan. The online scan is safer because the viruses have no access to cloak themselves from the virus engine. Link to Panda Online Scan and free spyware program below. Hope this helps.

Try Clicking CTRL Alt And Delete All At Once While The Computer Is On Your Desktop. Then Click New Task Put In explorer.exe And Then Click Ok. This Should Bring Up Your Shortcuts So You Can Get What You Need Off The Computer. If You Want You Can Also After Doing The Explorer.exe Go To Your Start Menu, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore. Then Restore Your Computer To An Earlier Date When This Problem Didnt Exist. The Problem Your Having is A Malfunction In The Operating System Because Something Necessary Was Erased. Hope This Helps

There are a couple of different ways you may have lost your icons. They could have disappeared when you installed a certain program or even when you upgraded to a new operating system. Either way, you need them, so let's find them again! To enable those icons and more, right click on your desktop and choose Properties. Click on the Desktop tab and hit the Customize Desktop button. Next, under the General tab, check off any of the icons you want to appear on your desktop.

I have a Dell laptop - Inspiron 9300 - running Windows XP. When turning off the computer I get a message that RpinstallerFinder.exe failed to initialize correctly. How do I fix this problem?

Download, install and run Malwarebytes (link below) and remove anything it finds ( just follow the prompts)

I've got an Dell Inspiron 9300 LCD

Try running diags Fn + Power button see if anything fails

Since you can boot to the BIOS, then the system is posting, so I suspect you have either a Windows issue or a hard drive issue.

If the HDD passes diagnostics, I'd try booting to the XP CD and see if you can press R for recovery console and run the command CHKDSK /R and see if that resolves

Post back with the results

You can restore your system in your safe mode.
To use System Restore to restore Windows XP to a previous state, follow these steps:
  1. Log on to Windows as Administrator.
  2. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore. System Restore starts.
  3. On the Welcome to System Restore page, click Restore my computer to an earlier time (if it is not already selected), and then click Next.
  4. On the Select a Restore Point page, click the most recent system restore point in the On this list, click a restore point list, and then click Next.

Note A System Restore message may appear that lists configuration changes that System Restore will make. Click OK.
  5. On the Confirm Restore Point Selection page, click Next. System Restore restores the previous Windows XP configuration, and then restarts the computer.
  6. Log on to the computer as Administrator. The System Restore Restoration Complete page is displayed.
  7. Click OK.
If you successfully restored your computer to a previous state, and the computer is performing as it should be, you are finished.
