The drivers are from Intel as the wireless is built into the chipset.*%20XP%20Professional&lang=eng

How to reformat laptop

  • 1

If you have the recovery cd, you can just pop-in the CD, select the reformat option and the installation process will continue automatically. Some laptop might have a special partition in the drive contains the operating system, drivers, etc. in case you want to reformat your laptop without the CD.

If you don't have the recovery CD, you usually can request one from the manufacturer. Otherwise, if you want to do a clean install, make sure you download all the drivers for your laptop, this may includes: motherboard, chipset, graphic card, sound card, modem, network card. Once you do that, put in the OS CD and start installing.

If you decided to do a clean install without the recovery CD, it would be best to create partition on your harddrive first, so you can have dedicated partition for operating system and backup. The next time you want to reformat your harddrive, you can just reformat that particular partition ex. C:\

Reformatted my dell inspiron xp 1520 laptop with windows xp and can't get my wireless internet going. first time doing this I might add

Every time you reformat an xp pc you have to reinstall all the drivers. For dell just use the cd it came with and it has all the drivers you need to install. when you install it it actually detects what hardware you have and it puts check mark next to it when drivers software opens. If you dont have a cd need to get online with another pc and download the drivers. go to and just choose your model. if you have installed the drivers which is separate from the operating system then make sure your wireless is turned on. older dell laptops have an FN key which has to be pressed with most of the time with F2 key. newer ones have a switch on side or front of it. Some models even have a little round button above the F keys that it has little antenna on it. just push that. Hope this helps.

I need to reformat my friends acer 3000 its running windows exp but he does not have the disk or the coins to buy 1 also is there a way i can wipe it clean without reforammting keeping xp on there so i...

You can install a software like TuneXP which works out perfectly cleaning your PC's registry, useless files, startup programs, reinstates icons on desktop and lot more. You dont have to take the burden of reinstalling Windows XP again on your laptop after formating.

Need to reformat my dell insprion 1501

You first need to ensure that the you have the drivers on the cd's or check if they are avaible on dell's website..

Then you will need a Windows XP CD.. Just put the windows xp formatting cd in cd-drive and restart computer...
When it should say "press any key to continue." (or similar) just press a random key on the keyboard..
(If it doesnt say "press any key to continue", right when you turn on computer press F2 and make CD/DVD Drive the first on the Boot list.. Then save settings..)
Wait for the blue screen to finish loading..
Delete the partition and install windows on the unformat space..
Format it as NFTS (select quick if u are in a hurry, but i doesnt recommend doing so..
Then just follow the instructions on the screen until finishing installing windows..
If your sound, wireless and stuff like that doesnt work after formatting insert the drivers cd i mentioned in the beginning and install its contents..

    For futher details:

Not sure I understand you what you mean. Let me recap:
    1) Your LAN adaptor was working before you reloaded Windows XP Pro.
    2) Now it’s not showing up in “Device Manager”.
If this is the case, there must be some software driver missing. Make sure there are no other devices that have an error. Double check Dell’s website at and select "I'm looking for drivers and downloads". If you don't have the proper version of Adobe you will be prompted to install it. Once installed return to "drivers and downloads" and enter the "service tag", (serial number) of the laptop. Dell keeps a listing of drivers for every customer's computer they sell.

    Acer 4520 Booting Problem.

i would suggest to uninstall and reinstall the drivers of your network adapter, or it would be best if you install the latest drivers for it. no need to format the HD.
if you feel that formating is needed, it would also work but that takes a lot of work.

    hope this helps. :)

Reformat Of Acer Aspire 3680 Help

If all you need is to format the disk
    1. Insert your XP disk
    2. reboot you machine after cancelling all the installation set up details
    3. Follow the instructions that follow as if you are installing Xp afresh (install, Accept terms,) then choose drive to install XP on (the one with current XP or else others) press delete (D) and follow the instruction to accept
    4. After deleting choose Install XP and chose to format your disk the way you want Fast/Slow to FAT/NTFS
Please note formatting is deleting everything (EVERYTHING) on that disk preparing to store new information as a blank HDD i.e. you will lose everything on the disk viruses, bad stuff and all your valuable data on it
