Question about Washing Machines

Open Question

Using Nikwax softshell proof has left a jelly like residue over my North Face Jacket. What shall I do?!

I followed the directions on the bottle, but the wash has left small bobbles of sticky grey jelly over the garments I put in the wash. Will rewashing them remove the residue? How do I prevent this happening again?

SOURCE: Lint or soap residue

Sounds more like a build-up of particles that may very well be in the water supply. There is something that you can try to get rid of these particles.

1. With the machine empty start it in normal eash mode and let it fill. Add 1/2 cup bleach to the water and let the machine run completely through the wash cycle. This will help remove any unseen stains or build-up.

2. When the machine drains and begins to refill on the next cycle, add 1/2-1 cup of white vinegar and again, let the machine finish its' cycle.

3. Run the machine through the wash cycle one more time to remove any vinegar that may have been left behind.

This is not a guaranteed method but I have had some success.

SOURCE: stinky laundry

Hi! I have Kenmore Elite 4t and had this same problem: Musty, Moldy smell in washer and on clothes. The Sears Technician suggested that I use a half a cup of Clorox Liquid Bleach and put it in the tub (not the dispenser). NO CLOTHES! Use the longest hottest setting and when it's done clean the inside (underneath rubber tire thingie) and the undernath part of the door with a papertowel. And to always leave the door open. I did what he said with the bleach and it worked. I didn't want to leave the door open because I have 2 cats & was afraid that they would want to go in it, but ended up repeating the bleach thing again because a few days later the horrible smell was back. I leave the door open all the time now and the cats never go in it. They've watched laundry spin around, so I guess they're smart enough to not want to go in it. I have not had this problem again since I always leave the door open and I did this over a month ago. I hope this helps!

SOURCE: suds residue left on clothes just washed

ck drain hose end of drain hose should be at least 36 ins from floor also be sure drain hose fits loosely in drain water may be siphoning out resulting low water level to wash/rinse ..also recommend using liquid detergent dry doesn't dissolve good in cold water and even though it may be recommended for front load the lower water levels used may not be enough to dissolve it properly

SOURCE: Maytag Nepturn TL FAV6800 Grey spots/debris on clothing

Hello davidsonrepl,

I was waiting with someone with more experience to post back on your issue. I haven't experienced this issue it but I would not rule out a transmission seal failure causing your oily grey substance in the wash tub. If you want to investigate further you can get the Service Manual from here

http://www.fixya.com/support/r1655507-found_service_manual_neptune_top_load

take a look at page 38 and on and see if you feel OK with a tear down to the transmission.

On this series of full size trucks from 99-2006 (also known as GMT800, where the suburban is the GMT830), the lower left gage is for the Transmission Temperature on 2500 series vehicles. On the The North Face Edition of the 2002 Avalanche, I released the white faced cluster, and the team decided to place the The North Face logo there for decoration.

I am about to re-glue the alternator magnets to the rotor of my 1989 Kawasaki ex500, I am not sure what arrangement to set them in as each magnet face has a north and south pole, can anyone help? I on

I would alternate them N-S-N-S. Technically it will still operate no matter how you place them. However, it should be most efficient to alternate the magnets.

Waste toner is almost full on Savin C9020

The bottom left portion of the display gave the error message:
Waste Toner Bottle 1 Almost Full. Please call service.

They were still able to print, however this message would not go away.

To Fix:

Power down the printer using the normal shutdown method.

Open the top front door.

Remove the cover directly below the 4 toner cartridges.

The removable cover below the toner cartridges is actually the Waste Toner Bottle.

Bring this to the dumpster.

There is a round, clear-plastic tab on the underside of the "bottle". Remove this.

Shake the bottle around over the dumpster. Continue until all the toner has been removed.

Push the clear plastic tab back in place. Wipe off all toner residue before putting it back into the printer.

Put the waste toner bottle back into place. Power on the Savin. Confirm the message no longer appears and that users are able to print.

Steam iron dose not function well the water leaks out while ironing on steam setting

The problem you're having is often cased by a calcium and mineral build up, due to the tap water you're using. To solve the problem, if it's not to late. Do the following:

Empty any water remaining in the iron. Mix a 50/50 solution of White Distilled Vinegar and Bottled Distilled Water (enough to fill the iron's water tater holder).

Pour the solution into the tank, plug the iron in and turn it to steam. Once it starts to steam, turn the iron OFF, unplug it and allow it sit face down on a flat surface, covered by a towel. Allow it to soak over night. In the morning, empty the prepared solution and refill with just the Bottled Distilled Water. Plug the iron in and turn it to steam. Allow it to steam for 30 minutes. This will flush any of the solution's residue from the iron. Any remaining water should be emptied from the iron.

In the future, I would recommend using Bottled Distilled Water, instead of tap water.

Hope this helped you. Please let me know. Thanks.

I wish to wash my Marmot down jacket- what products should I use and what is the best way to wash it?

you can buy specific detergent for down based products to clean and retain the insulation properties of teh jacket. I use NikWax down wash which works really well for my mountain hardwear down jacket. Follow the instructions which are usually:

put washing machine on clear cycle to flush all residue detergent out of the machine, use 1-2 capfulls of down wash and wash on a low heat 30-40 degrees. Then either air dry or my preferred method is to put it in the dryer by itself on a low heat with some clean tennis balls in the dryer - hey presto lovelly and clean jacket ready to go out and get mucky again
