I had this problem as well. I would get sound from headphones but unplugging them I had no sound from the builtin speaker.

When you plug in your headphones it moves a thin piece of metal in the jack which interrupts a connection (this is a good thing) so it can know when to disable the internal speaker. When you unplug your headphones the piece of metal moves back and it enables the internal speaker again.

I was able to fix this by taking apart my x51v and bending the piece of metal a little while the headphones are plugged in so that it will contact better when the headphones are unplugged,

To take your axim apart there are 4 screws on the back underneath the rubber grips that you need to take out. Then you can just slide a finger nail up and down each side to remove the front and back of the casing. The back you will need to swing out from the bottom since it hooks over the headphone jack. I unplugged the small wire that connects the front half of the case to the guts using a tiny flat screwdriver.

Inside on the back, there is a black plastic plate that is held on by 4 more screws. Take that off.

Now you can see the headphone jack. I plugged in my headphones and used a small flat screwdriver to push against the headphone jack on the bottom piece of metal on the right side with the axim face down. You can observe the piece I mean by looking at the side of the headphone jack when you plug and unplug headphones. It moves perhaps 1/32 of an inch.

Your goal is to bend the piece of metal closer to where it is when no headphones are plugged in. The only way to bend it properly is to do it when the headphones are in.

Sorry if this isn't clear enough. I'm not sure if this is a permanent fix or not but it's worked for me.

    Andrew
Thanks for the clear concise directions. I have been without sound on my Axim x51v for 12 months. I happened across this article while doing some research into the HTC HD2. I now have sound FANTASTIC!! Thanks again for posting this.

I know this article is a little old but thanks Andrew. After plugging some NOX headphones into my Axim x51v I was no longer able to get sound from the main speaker. With a bit of work following your tutorial I was able to get my sound working again. Thanks man!

02 XDA II MIni Speaker

U must have the right tool 2 open ur o2. Then u can start opening ur o2. Once uve opened up ur o2 u can see the speaker at the top. U can see 2 pin at the speaker, u gently pull the pin upwards but dont pull to hard u might break the pin. When both of the pin is pull up u can close back ur o2 . Then u can test whether theres sound coming out of the speaker. If there is sounds that mean uve succeeded repairing ur o2. Bravo........

Spv m3100 sound problem

some times if you have droped it the connector in side for the speaker comes lose. i have had the same problem and its realy easy to open and fix.

There are 4 screws that hold it together and if you undo them it will open up .then on the left hand side in the middle there is a small block box if you look it will usualy be a little lose .just push it in and it will work.................REMEMBER ONLY IF THERE IS NO SOUND AT ALL AND YOU HAVE DROPED IT THEN TRY THIS ,OR TAKE IT TO A REPAIR SHOP .hope that helps.

No more sound from speaker

I had a similar issue on mine. The easy fix was to insert a headset jack and pull it out quickly. I think something got stuck that turns off the speaker after I put the headset in the jack once. If this is the problem, I think you should also see a headset icon when making calls, even though no headset is attached.
