Re: GE Side by Side GSS22JERFWW not keeping cold
Often there is a cover in the rear of the freezer with some screws remove these and put low temp grease on the fan. The Problem Is %100 The Fan So If You Look Up Your Fridge On Google It Will Tell You Where The Fan Is.

one of 2 things can be wrong,#1) if theres a heavy frost buildup on the rear inside wall of the freezer compartment then its a defrost issue, which will block air flow to the refrigerator side, take off back panel and test defrost heater and thermostat both on evaporator coil for continuity, thermostat has to be below 32 degrees to test good, most of the time its the hearter on G.E.. #2)if no frost buildup, then check the damper vent door between the freezer and refrigerator compartments and make sure its not stuck or broken shut and can no longer open and close to keep temperatures in refrigerator cold
initially, set the refrigerator compartment control at 5 and the freezer control at 5 and allow 12 hours for the temperature to stabilize. Several adjustments may be required. Adjust the controls one increment at a time, and allow 12 hours after each adjustment for the refrigerator to reach the temperature you set.
Adjustable Humidity Crispers and Snack Pan (on some models) HIGH LOW HIGH LOW Normal Coldest Slide the control all the way to the High setting to provide high humidity recommended for most vegetables. Convertible Meat Pan (on some models) The convertible meat pan has its own cold air duct to allow a stream of cold air from the freezer compartment to flow around the pan. The variable temperature control regulates the air flow from the freezer compartment. Slide the control all the way to the Low setting to provide lower humidity levels recommended for most fruits.
Many times a freezer and/or refrigeratordo not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many otherthings that can go wrong.
If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing then check out thelast two tips.
If your refrigerator is running but warm, then...
Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to starttrouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then callinga repair person to do a simple thing for you...
If the freezer is working great and you don't have frost build up on your coils (this would be a defrost problem) and your fan is running in the freezer, then first check your control settings.
put both your freezer and refrigerator controls in the middle position. your refrigerator gets its cold air from the freezer. the freezer control is actually the thermostat control. this controls the compressor. the refrigerator control is basically an air damper that allows more or less air in from the freezer.
by placing both controls on 9, you may think that you are turning both controls wide open when you are actually making the compressor run longer yet the air damper is keeping that cold air mostly in the freezer.
Could be multiple problems. First, check the freezer compartment and make certain that the freezer fan is running. This fan moves cold air from the freezer compartment to the refrigerator. If it's not running, inadequate cold air gets to the refrigerator.
Your having to defrost manually sounds like there could be a problem with the defroster circuitry; however, check out the fan operation first.
The fan should be at the top of the freezer. There is probably an access panel you can remove to see if it's turning. However, you should be able to hear it if it's turning.
If the fan is not turning, you will need to remove it and replace it.
look for ice or forst build up on the rear wall of freezer compartment, sounds like you may have a defrost problem. this will affect temps in freezer and refrig. the most common def problems for GE are bad defrost heaters. these are model specific and fairly easy to replace your self. i got this part number form Sears.com WR51X10055 good luck peyton
Hi!!! your current relay has shorted change it and you should be okay..your hearing your relay cliking its no good..it looks like this and is located by the compressor where the rires go into the compressor..good luck..look at image of the current relay.. or location here
