Question about Blue Flame Charmglow 30K BTU Propane Vent Free Space Heater

1 Answer

My CharmGlow Vent-Free Gas Fireplace CGL300TQ after waiting a few minutes between attempts to light it lights at the pilot with a blast of propane sometimes to strong to ignite and within a minute it slow down to barely enough to keep pilot lit. and when i try to turn it up to ignite the burner it goes out with a click at the control.also if i try to just let the pilot lit within a minute again i get a click at the control and the pilot goes out. I have changed the thermocupler.

SOURCE: My CharmGlow Vent-Free Gas Fireplace

I am hoping your model is the same as shown in this manual.

The symptoms you have is linked to some obstruction in the gas supply.

However the thermostat is part of the gas valve and is item 14 on page 20.
There is a toll free phone number for charmglow at the end of the manual.

I believe they have upto 5 years warranty on some parts of the firelplace. Maybe they will recommend their technician to have a look under warranty.

if the therocouple has packed up pilot light will not light thermocouple has long small diameter pipe leading to a larger end this needs to be above the pilot flame also for safety have a small bowl of soapy water with a brush wet the nut with soapy water in no bubbles appear then try lighting heater thermocouples don't last that long

Napoleon Fireplace propane Pilot won't light main burner even though gas flows in?

  • I'm going to assume your fireplace has a pilot light.
  • Follow the little holes in the burner that lead to the pilot light.
  • Make sure the pilot flame is pointing directly at the closest burner hole. (adjust if necessary).
  • Often, you will need to sprinkle a layer of "glowing embers" in this area. The embers will help the gas travel to the pilot light and ignite.
  • Always start your propane appliance on "High" never "Low". Cold propane likes to drop to the bottom of the firebox and accumulate until it reaches the pilot (this is called delayed ignition). Keeping it on "high" will help the fuel travel over to the pilot without buildup.

Charmglow CGL300TQ Keep shutting off after a minute???

Not too familiar with this product, but it looks like a vent free heater. ALL vent free heaters are required to have an ODS pilot light. These pilots monitor the oxygen level in the room and if it detects a low oxygen level, it shuts down the whole heater. This is what I think is really happening. And the solution is simple. Near the rear of the metal tube where the pilot light flame comes out, you will find two very small holes. If these holes get even a little plugged up with dust you will have this problem. Just get a can of air or use an air compressor and blow air through these holes. I bet that this will solve your problem. It is also a good idea to keep the area around your heater clean and free of dust. I have a free standing gas log heater and at the start of each season I take the logs out and vacuum everything, inside and out, and also underneath the unit. Then I use my air compressor to blow out any remaining dust, especially around the pilot light, and of course, I then blow air through the two tiny holes in the pilot light tube. Since I started doing this, I have not had any problems with my heater.

Charmglow model cgl300tq. cannot seem to get enough gas to make ignition! i keep pilot inlet tube clean. how can i tell if it is the regulator. it is definitely a gas flow problem!

You will need a manometer to determine your gas pressure, the amount required is posted on your appliance. Take both a static and dynamic reading on the inlet side of the gas valve. If it is not high enough consult a plumber. If it is take a reading on the manifold side. If the gas pressure is too low again consult a plumber. If it is within spec check orifaces and burner tubes if any for debris and spiders.

I cant get the logs to light only the pilot light

Can you smell gas when the pilot goes out? If so, you may have too much pressure. If you just changed bottles and didn't do anything else, look at the flame sensor. It may be the problem. Good luck...Lee
